Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

Wow, exciting ickman -- it'll be interesting to see if ATRAC really works now.

Glad we finally got through the 30 odd posts of people arguing with each other about stupid crap and finally got back on topic.

Incidentally, I'm not exactly sure what people were worried about -- if it broke anything, one would just have to take the switch out -- go to the dealer and explain that the FJ was broken... I doubt they'd immediately (or ever) suspect that a switch was installed in an attempt to enable ATRAC -- even more far-fetched is that they would look at the data recorder and then accuse you of doing so if there was no switch in place.

If it works, could you post the part number of the switch you bought? And did it just plug in to a loose plug in the harness behind where the switch was?

Thanks

Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

I may go out and find me a nice ditch this afternoon. Ground is pretty wet still and I have still have the wimpy stock Dunlop AT20's. Tire slippage gauranteed. I hope it works, but just to clarify again..A-Trac will NOT work with the rear locker engaged. That is per the owners manual. I think that is one mod that I will not attempt to do less I risk snapping an axle shaft.

Someone else can step up to the plate for that one

Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

so if you have the axle locked the atrac turns off?
even when we install the switch? please verify that.
also, please check out if it turns off automaticly when switching out of 4 low
thanks

Re: 2 cheap and easy A-TRAC hacks

That's what the manual states. I believe there was another "hack" floating around somewhere else about over-riding the automatic A-Trac shut off when the rearlocker is engaged. Installing the A-Trac switch only enables you to turn on the A-Trac system. ( I hope ). It's got nothing to do with having it on at the same time as the rear locker . I 'll check and see if the light goes off when I engage ther rear locker and that will be the proof that they cannot be on at the same time.
