ox-locker

First off love the FJ, Looking to buy
Just thinking, has anyone looked into saving the money for the electric locker and installing your own ox-locker or 2. don't know if one is even avail. and if so by putting one in the front also you wouldn't need the A trac either??? ???

Re: ox-locker

I am a big fan of Ox products, however, I havent seen that they make one for a toyota axle. The stock locker isnt bad at all and the package is fairly cheap. I could maybe see an ARB for the rear, but it would be over a grand to install the compressor and locker. If you wanted to do both front and rear, just the hardware would be around $1800 plus install. Its all your choice, ARB's would be nice, but the factory setup is pretty sweet as-is.

Re: ox-locker

No OX for the Toyota, but they were talking about trying to make one. The problem is the actuator attaches, slides and actuates through the diff cover. Toyota's have no diff cover, its a stamped housing with the 3rd member (chunk, pig, hogs head, dropout, and any other terms used to describe the self contained assembly similar to the 9" Ford) coming out the front of the housing. No diff cover, no Ox Locker. ARB is your only option for the front (RD111 for the 3.91+ ratios, RD121 for the 3.73- ratios) Rear axles without the factoy E-Locker can use a Detroit locker or ARB.

Re: ox-locker

ox makes a good solid product. but for the price of them, i would rather go with an ARB front and rear. they work extremely well.

I'm confused on which ARB front locker is needed with an AT if one is going to regear to 4.56. Specifically, do you need the RD121, because the AT comes stock with 3.73 or do you need the RD111 because you're now gonna have 4.56 gears???

You buy the locker to fit the gear you are installing, so for 4.56 gears you install the RD111, if you just want to add an ARB to the stock gears in the automatic equipped FJ, you would install the RD121

I think a locker on the front would make trac useless accept that lockers are rough on drive components (especially the front) and I would still use trac first, unless I needed to get through the obstacle the first time with out fail.
