Yep. Just wanted to say I'd seen the price less expensive than MSRP and/or the price Kansas was referring to. Not a functional comparison.
Fair enough!

Re: New FJ....and custom sliders

Aj at bentup told me he would make them stick out less if that was what I wanted.

If I get them, I will get them uncoated and rattle can them with Rustoleum or maybe even undercoating. Not too worried about them being real pretty. Plan on scraping them up!

Re: New FJ....and custom sliders

Does anyone know if a flat step/tread section can be added to the bentup sliders? I want to use the rails as a step in addition to protecting the underside of the truck from obstacles. From the pics of the bentup rails, it looks like someone could easily slip off the rail and get a foot caught between the 2 bars. This wouldn't go over well if it's my mother-in-law that slips while climbing in the truck.

I know some rails have a flat section "dented" into them under the doors. Others have a step welded on in this area. Can this be done with the bentup rails?

Re: New FJ....and custom sliders

A) Back from Costa Rica
B) Installed my BentUp sliders

I think you guys are more interested in B... The install was straight forward. All the bolts were high-grade 10.9 stamped stuff. I did the install solo. Only one issue:

The bracket holding the brake line (circled) must be removed. This is so the farthest back slider bracket can attach to the mounting points (arrows). The factory rock rails don't have a solid plate like this so the line does not need to be moved.

With the install completed, you can see the brake line 'hovering' above the mount. It seemed possible to reattach the bracket, but it would put a lot of stress on the brake line where it crosses over the slider. I decided to let it 'float' as the better of two evils.

Mounted up!

Lower angle.

Trying to show the 'stick-out-ness'

Conclusion: I think they look great. No complaints from me on that. They are easy to hop up onto for roof rack purposes. The back of your pants will most likely keep them polished every time you step out

Re: New FJ....and custom sliders

Bill, you may want to use zipties to hold the brake line more securely. For my slider on my G, i use the skateboard friction tape so that your passengers (and you) won't slip off the nerf bars when stepping into your car.

Re: New FJ....and custom sliders

Mucho thanks for the pictures! They do look really good installed.

The brakeline has been one of my concerns with getting these sliders. I think Andy mentioned that in his final install he did replace the brake line, but when I was looking at mine it seemed like it would be really tight if I did this. I do think I'm going to order some of these though

How do you like the amount of "stick-outiness"? Curious if you think it would be worthwhile to have about an inch less. Also, did you specify the gloss coating, or was this the only one that bentup was using?

Hmmm. Good idea. [Thinking out loud:] I might reinstall the brake line bracket and then ziptie the line to the top of it, that way using the brass fitting so the zipties don't cut into the rubber...

The aren't slippery right now. I'll have to check after a good rain (should be any day now in Portland...). I like the gloss look, so I would rather not add a friction modifier...

It's a tough call on the stick-out-ness. Right now, they are easy to hop up on for roof-rack checking and for use in ingress/egress. An inch in, they would be a bit more like toe holds. However, it would save the back of your pants a bit... Compromises. As far as looks go, I think they look great with this level of pop-out...

For the coating, I only specified a powder coat and this is what came. I like the gloss though, so no regrets.
