K & N Air Filter

Has anyone changed their stock air filter to a K&N air filter yet? If so what were the results in performance, sound, M.P.G etc.

Great question, Plum, and as a side note, is it worth the $47.95 retail price you pay for it?

Re: K & N Air Filter

I didnt do it in the FJ (sadly b/c I dont have one yet), but I have put one in every non-POS vehicle I have ever owned. You always get a noticeable performance boost. Nothing huge, but it always feel a little bit better off the start.

So I'd say its always worth the $50-$100 for an intake kit. JMO

Re: K & N Air Filter

I have one in my Corvette. Just to be able to clean it and put it back in makes it worth the money. As far as performance goes, I don't think it makes much of a difference if it is the only thing you are replacing.

I would agree too. A K&N drop in filter should improve air flow much better than a stock filter. I believe that a CAI would improve performance over an aftermarket drop in filter. Wonder if anyone will sell CAI's for the FJs.

Re: K & N Air Filter

While it is true that K&Ns do flow more air than stock paper filters, it has also been repeatedly shown that K&Ns also let in a LOT more dirt than paper filters.

Personally, I'm not willing to trade a little performance for a lot less protection.

Is this also true of the Toyota TRD air filters? They look very K&N like. These are already for sale from Toyota.

I have no idea, I've never seen nor read anything about TRD filters.

Where are the TRD air filters for sale. I think that is only pre-order as I havent heard of anyone getting it. I am waiting for the TRD but might get the K&N if Toyota doesnt hurry up and get them done...
