I'm going to make a set from 2" seamless with .095 walls - maybe I'll go up on the thickness since due to its intended purpose, Hmmm. I do like the Bentup rails, but a little too protruding for my liking. I'll also be desinging a roll bar out of 1 3/4" tube for good measure. I'm sure Bentup has already got this task covered as well.
I'll put up pictures when done.
Supposedly, bentup.com will bring them in or otherwise shape them how you want. Not a bad option to check out.

True that. They seem more than capable to do custom orders after checking out their trial and error pics on that rear bumper! What an undertaking!!!
Fortunately, I have been doing my own metalwork on all 6 of my past Cruisers, which puts me in the convenient position of saving some serious change. A 20' stick of 2" seamless and a half role of .035 wire will set me back about $60 as opposed to the 3 bills to buy the finished product + shipping. Plus it's fun!
BTW Renoman, you guys had a kicka$$ B-ball team this year at UNR. My Bulldogs put the stompdown on you in FB though. I'm up in Reno quite a bit with motocross stuff out in Fernley, Stead, & Honey Lake. We should hook up for some wheelin'. I'm in Sacramento.
The aftermarket rails (posted elsewhere on this forum) seem to be going the same old route. Why would you use a flat plate and weld the tubing straight to it when you are connecting to the frame? that's how it's been done. Toyota's U-channel bolted to the frame is a much better idea...from an engineering standpoint (IMO). They give you the stiffness in the direction they will be used...up and down. Plus you get more area at the connection to the frame for the forces to work against. I'm getting the Toyota rock rails. If you want something that sticks out farther...look to Toyota for inspiration when creating your own. They know what they are doing.

It would be great if I had a clue, but let's face it, that's just not gonna happen.

I agree with you my thought was to add to the stock rails a few steps or something similar to what Bentup fab did but not sticking out so far

Bulldogs? Fresno St.? Football? We stomped you on ESPN to earn a share of the conference championship. And we open up against you this year on ESPN (Friday night game). Sorry for the passion - ex-linebacker for them
As for wheelin, I actually have to buy my FJC first - I am holding off a couple of months to see what aftermarket items I want vs. Toyota products. This is getting harder and harder to do, and I am betting once I actually see the black cherry, then I can finally pick out my color (right now my first choice is blue, but I want to see the bc first) and I will just go ahead an order one. Right now, I would order it with only the CQ, UP1, side air bags & roof rack (and maybe the roof lights if available), then get aftermarket rock rails, wheels and tires. I am friends with the local Toyota manager (ex-lineman), and he said he would work with me on getting the wheels and tires.
Sorry for the hijack - back on subject - if I had the equipment, time and know-how, I would love to make my own rock rails. But I don't, so I won't
Yeah, I knew that was coming. You guys just outworked and outplayed us. We probably had the better talent, but you definitely had the better team that day.
N-Fab is producing a rock rail with side steps for Toyota. These mount to the frame to factory drilled holes. Rock rails would mount on the side, these mount to the bottom. Powerder coated steel. You can order directly from N-Fab, as Toyota has released these in Canada but not in the US yet. http://www.n-fab.com/products/Toyota/
