I've got your pickup's younger brother here in my backyard undergoing some major surgery. I am thinking he needs a snorkel so he can Scuba too.

What material are those colored breathers made of? I guess what I mean to ask is it something that needs to stay dry? Looks like a mini K & N air filter.

Thats what they look like up close too, very well put together, it apears that they are cloth If so, you can add a little oil just like the large K&N filters

Do you need to put teflon tape on the fuel line union before screwing it into the diff?

You could, I didn't; it fit snug. No water is going to get in there as long as the hose clamp is tight
