Re: SCUBA Driver Rear Differential Breather MOD

Only "evidence" I can offer is the result of having my front and rear diff's "serviced" today in prep for driving out to Ouray. I had been through some water crossings but nothing I thought was too deep. The mechanic asked if I had been in deep water because the fluid looked to be "slightly" contaminated. Do I know that it came in through the breather, no, I have no proof. Did the mechanic recommend to me to relocate/extend the breathers, YES. We had a discussion about this thread and he thought it was a good idea if I were to travel through similar streams/water crossings.

You make a valid point about modifying a "factory part/system" and the potential for voiding the warranty. Yet, I also believe that if I had a failure, they would have to prove that said modifications caused the defect. It works both ways.

So, I'm doing it tomorrow. Thanks to all who have contributed to the evolving techniques and additions to this thread...
We in the off-road community have known about this for many years, this is why it is “Normal” practice of doing this MOD to our vehicles. I understand where someone would be hesitant to modify an existing vehicle. Again as stated not only by myself, but others that this helps “prevent” any water contamination into our drive train. I learned a long time ago, that you can’t satisfy everyone, there will always be doubters. Thanks for sharing your story.

Re: SCUBA Driver Rear Differential Breather MOD

********FREE STICKERS*****FREE STICKERS******FREE STICKERS****

I just got a quote back from the Sticker company. I just ordered 100 two color stickers Those that you that have done this MOD, I will send you one “FREE”, all you have to do is post a pic of it. There a little expensive to just send out to everyone. I decided that this way I can be a little more selective to those that have actually relocated their breathers. All you have to do is post a pic, then PM me with your mailing information. I’ll send one out to you. It’s going to take week to get them. I won’t be able to send them out until I get back from the Summit. Those of you that are attending the Summit that have already done this MOD. I will give you one there. They will look exactly like the picture. Thank you for the great feed back I have got on this thread. I wanted to take the time to give a little back in appreciation to all of you. My way of saying thanks

Re: SCUBA Driver Rear Differential Breather MOD

I get a sticker?

I was going to hold off on the mod for a bit.

But for a sticker?

I'm headed down to buy parts now.

Put my name on one of them and hang onto it for me. I'll post the pict when I'm done working on it.

I'd hate to become a scuba driver only to find out that the stickers have all been handed out.

I'll even sing the Jody Call as I drive down to the parts store if it motivates you to set one aside for me.

Got drunk last night
Drunk the night before
Gonna get drunk like
I never have before

Cause when I'm drunk
I'm happy as can be
Cause I am a member
Of the frog family!

Oh the frog family
Is the best family
That ever sailed
Across the sea

There's a highland frog
And a lowland frog
There's an underwater frog
And a Yachtsman frog (I think that's Dragon)

Singing Glorious-Glorious
One keg of beer for the four of us

Singing Glory be to God
That there are no more of us
Cause one of us
Cold drink it all alone
--Damned near

Re: SCUBA Driver Rear Differential Breather MOD

SW- Noce mod- I am relatively new to the off road community and can see where this is an advantageous mod for us scuba driving nutz. And I can really appreciate your tact in handling Rics piont- that said I wanna swim- Dragon- nice scuba pic- I will wear both badges with honor and will post pics of the mod as soon as it is done- I like the looks of your SW.

Thank you for your kind words. I want to Welcome you to the Off-Road World. I believe to inform people of our sport and help educate new members rather than insult someone trying to learn something new. Make sure you post a pic and then PM me with your address to send the sticker to.

Thanks again, and welcome

Re: SCUBA Driver Rear Differential Breather MOD

Well, got all of my parts. The list sure helped Shadow. I'll be adding my skid plate and this mod when it's cooler on Saturday morning. Proud to wear your sticker on the FJ when I'm done. Thanks again from the Rat family.
