i was meaning more about water coming in through the new set up if god forbid you get too deep in the wet stuff and stay there kinda like a fail safe
If your that deep, you have alot more problems to worry about than a little water in the diff

Think this mounting location might reduce the chance of the dreaded bulge?

Re: SCUBA Driver Rear Differential Breather MOD

OK, I decided to go ahead with this mod, and just finished obtaining parts today. But, in planning the breather/filter install for the engine compartment, noticed the front breather caps, located just back of the oil filter.

Wouldn't these too create a vacuum when water hits the front differential? So, would it be a good idea to relieve the vacuum neg. pressure by changing these over to a freeflow filter, like that for the rear diff/R locker? Yeah, the front ones are already higher, but couldn't the neg. pressure draw in water through some seals underwater up front too?

Anyone? Thanks in advance...

Not quite sure what you mean... the seals are meant to hold hot diff fluid in, so I don't see them letting cold water in. Still I agree with you that a change to a free flow filter may be a better choice.

Experts? What's you opinion please? Maybe tie the front into the same filter via an extension?

Most auto supply stores carry small plastic vaccum manifolds that you could plug everything into. The most common ones have 3 & 4 ports.

Re: SCUBA Driver Rear Differential Breather MOD

The ones up front that Toyota has already relocated for you I think will be fine, you can if you want, it will help. The ones in the rear are a little different story. They sit very low on the rear which will pick up alot more debris that could get up inside the stock cap and keep the breather cap in the open position that would alow water to be sucked inside. The ones under the hood are pretty much clear of the amount of mud you would get in the rear. But again, it dosn't hurt to be more efficient up front under the hood too. In the end it's your call, if you plan on running alot in the water and mud, I would have to say yes. On a side note, those of you that are runing the open breather like I show, treat it just like a K&N filter, it is basicly, it's cloth with wire mesh. I spray mine with a light coat of oil to keep any water from entering the open filter. I hope this helps
