Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

I stumbled across this today. While not a breather, it's more of a bellows to allow for expansion and contraction of the air in the differential.

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather MOD

Well I got 3 out of the 4 done on my MT. Didn't know the transmission was like the RR-diff(not extended). So I was only able to do RR, e-loc, transfer on my MT today.
Thanks Dragon for your help.
I think I will need to put a mini cam down there to see how the MT transmission breather is mounted and figure out the best way to relocate it.
I was told by a mechanic friend, that I shouldn't worry about to much. It is not as critical like the ATs. He said, if I think I got water in it, to just replace the fluid ASAP.
Here is a pic of my RR and e-loc

And here is a pic of my RR/e-loc filter and TransferCase filter.

Am I offically Scuba'd...any stickers left? I will glady pay for it one.

You did the rear like i plan on doing. I like that instead of cutting the loop on the elocker. That way it can always be undone if ever the need arises.

SCUBA DRIVER, CHECKIN' IN

Skorp62 and I did the mod today.
Me:

(Yes, I need to get a breather... I wasn't satisfied with the usual one everyone uses and wanted to look around first.)

When you figure out the MT, will you please tell me HTF you did it? I think we spent the better part of the day trying to figure that out on my MT. The Auto was cake...

Cough up those decals, Shadow! I'm willing to fork down whatever for one too...

I spent a better part of the afternoon trying to located the breathers on both the Transfer Case and the MT and no luck. I could not get my hands up there and I did not want to start pulling lines out that I could not put back in. If somebody has done this SCUBA Mod to a MT and Transfer Case, please pipe in with some insight. Thanks, chris

I can feel the MT, but no luck with pulling on it or trying to unscrew it. We came to the conclusion that it may be press-fit in and I figured I'd check here for more info. From what it looks like searching, I don't see much. Anyone?

I'm pretty sure the transfer case one was the one on top that was in the woven shroud, it's very thin like a vacuum line. Reach up under there, you'll feel the breather cap being held in by a clip and you can pop it right off.

Where was your front diff one? I saw a single breather coming up the driver side of the engine that was mounted in a clip, but Skorp62's Auto had 2? We poured over the diagrams for awhile and couldn't find it on the engine. Also couldn't figure out what that breather mounted up halfway there was for. Again, anyone?

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather MOD

The transfer case on the MT is the one with the woven shroud. I was able to, with the help of Dragon, do that one. However, the transmission itself was not doable. I felt down there again yesterday and I felt no hex bolt like the RR-diff...I also think it is a press fit. Probably would require to drop the tranny, not worth it.
Just check my post #552 above about the tranny.

Yea, I came to the same conclusion. I'll take an inspection mirror and take a look at it during the daylight tomorrow.

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather MOD

As you see on the pics that doublejfj provided, I ran all 4 breather lines to one Spector breather filter at the top. I was able to blow air both ways through all of my original caps that were removed, so I did not see any risk in tying them all into the same big filter. YMMV

Now to find a deep pond to test with, but I'm staying away from that hole in Citrus!
