Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

That's a cool way to mount all three breather, but if you mount it that way than there's no room for another battery, although you might be able to put it on the otherside.

Does anyone know the part number for the plastic trans breather on the automatics?

It's already done. Look on the drivers side of the motor and you will see two caps. One is the front diff.

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

I recently had to move things around and am considering putting the OEM plastic cap back on the front trans breather and leaving the cone filter on the combined rear breathers. I am having a hard time believing that with the breathers high that the OEMs will cause problems.

I think the issue is that with the caps when a vacuum is pulled they actually shut off like a check valve to keep things from getting sucked in. They are not perfect so they will allow the pressure to equalize over time but while there is the vacuum there is the potential to suck water in through the seals. Seals don't generally work equally well in both directions, depending on seal type and the ones on the FJ are more for keeping relatively thick oil in not thin water out.

All I know is the water entering the differentials is not a new phenomenon. It has been noted as a problem on plenty of well built 4X4s through the years.

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

Hey guys, I've relocated the two rear breathers and the transfer breather but I'm having trouble locating the AT breather. I've searched and read high and low but can't seem to locate it. It looks like the only two lines running on top of the transmission are the transfer case line and what I think is the AT line. The problem is the AT breather line appears to run up the back of the engine and mounts to a bracket near the driver's side exhaust manifold.

The rubber hose joins to a metal hose that is capped off. (don't see a breather anywhere) The location seems contrary to everything I've read and don't want to modify it until I'm sure it's actually the AT breather line. Here is a pic of what I'm describing: Is this is it?

thanks -Dbo

A question on the AT transmission breather is why does it allow you to suck air in and also blow air out? Is is a two way breather?

If the other end is connected to a tube coming out of the top of the trans, I'd say that's it. It looks like yours is already modified. Is that a late model '08?

It is connected to a metal tube running along the top of the AT. Yes, it's an TT '08 I picked up a couple of months ago. Interesting that they capped off a breather line. Why bother running a line over the trans and bell housing, halfway up the engine, only to cap it off?
