Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

Does it actually work with 1/8 NPS? if so, and if that part's available at lowes and places like that then it would be easier to get a hold of.

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

I doubt very much that you will find NPS fittings at local harware or home centers. That STRAIGHT thread is a what most Foreign manufactures use for hose, fuel , and tube fittings.

Seriously folks, do yourself a favor and just purchase that fitting that was originally sugested in the first post!!

Take it from ME,, you will WASTE alot of time trying to "CLOUGE" a SIMPLE modofication, when you can just get the CORRECT part from TOYO!

By the way,, I paid 8.86 for the fittin. but when I consider the time spent tryin to hunt down a common hardware fitting,, that 8.86 is a bargain!

Who ever it eas that said a 1/4 NPT fitting works,, is full a turkey Baloney
Its not even close!!!

The guy that took the time to write the original post,, is to be listened to!

Just follow his sugestions!! Life will be much easier!! I speak from experiance!

Directed to S-W, are there still SCUBA DRIVER stickers around? I finished my mod about a month ago, using a Y-shaped harness to minimize tubing runs for the tranny/transfer case up front. Basically used a similar termination like the rear diff/locker but much shorter. Though the hardest to get to was the tranny breather, especially AFTER you've put on the lift. But I digress, stickers stickers anyone??

Well thanks to fingas74, CaliChaos, fjexpedition and everyone here posting up the instructions, pics and personal experiances I have scuba'd my e-locker and rear-end. I still need to extend my T-Case but from what I can tell the main portion of what I was going to have future problems with is now handled.

I found a nice small air breather from AutoZone, $9.95 It’s made by “Spectre” Part number 3992, they come in different colors, Silver, Blue, Red, Yellow, etc. The following are pictures of the small colored Filters, they are very similar to a K&N filter. I used a little oil on mine to keep it water proof too.

You mention you used a little oil on your filter to keep it water proof, what kind of oil did you use, and did you just rub it on or how did you apply the oil to the filter?
Thanks

Thanks for posting. I'm not sure why people want to "Try" something different when I tried to give complete instructions in the first place to take all the work out if it for them....I don't know why someone would have posted it being 1/4 NPT, since it's all Metric in the forst place should have given them a clue...you can lead a horse to water but can't make him drink.

Mike
You guys are right. I mis-read the label on the packet. It was an 1/8 " fitting, but it didn't fit well enough to leave it that way. Since it was brass it didn't mess up the threads on the diff. It did get me through until I could get the correct part from the dealer. So it's all good now.
Sorry if I mislead anyone, it was not intentional.

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

Does anybody have an update to this for the 2008 FJ for the AT and transfer case breathers? From what I can tell, the AT breather hose routes up to the driver side of the rear of the engine, then gets terminated (i.e., no breather - it's capped off). With the transfer case breather hose, I can't follow it once it gets near the firewall, so if anybody knows where I should look for the end of the hose...

It's not caped off, they don't change breathers from year to year. Breathers are on ALL vehicles this is not something new to just the FJ. Go back and read my first post, it's there.
