Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

I'm thinking Bandi may be on to something here...I'd have a look and see what might be cooking on the exhaust manifold. Sounds like the rear diff is ruled out given the circumstances regarding when you smell it. Good luck on finding the root cause of your smell.

I dont smell it if i have the windows up and have it on inside air. I've only noticed the strong smell when i step on the gas going up hill and if the window is down.

You need 15' of 1/4 fuel , line but the other 2 mods you use 1/8 fuel line? is this correct? and how much line is required?

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

It depends on how you approach this mod...

I used 20' of 1/4 fuel line, but didn't use any 1/8, used brass coupling/adapters instead. I did the "T" junction for the rear diff and locker and brought it up to engine bay as a single line, then also ran separate lines for the tranny and transfer case...for a grand total of three filters...ended up with about 8" of extra hose when done.

I know others have run the locker independent of the rear diff with 1/8 line and also used 1/8 line on the transfer case...as I said...depends on your approach.

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

Sorry, new here. I see a lot of folks running breathers to the inside of the engine compartment which is considerably higher than stock. However, if you have a snorkel do you not want your breathers as high as that. Possibly into the CAI? I used to wheel in AK a bit and when routing diff breathers we tried to get them as high as the air filter intake if not inside the air intake.

Thanks. Sorry for the awakening.

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

Hmm...at first glance your assertion seems reasonable. I think the one thing that I would be concerned about though is essentially having ram air and thus positive air pressure on your breather tubes.

I know that some have expressed concern about increasing positive air pressure simply by having the filters in the engine bay. Pure speculation about the air pressure on my part so I'll have to leave it to those on the forum who have a better understanding of the real world physics based on actual knowledge and experiences.

I wonder what the approach is by the fellas "down under" who use snorkels on their rigs on a regular basis. It seems like the after-market breather tube extension kits for the Rovers that I've seen available only take them into the engine bay...

...and welcome to the forum jdlcruiser.

The tranny is routed right up near the vents in the engine bay is it possible that the fumes r comin through there or im smellin somethin else? could there be something wrong with the tranny if it smells like that ?
I had this problem too, found the front tcase was leaking from the center seal way in the back where it was hard to see.
In for warranty as I type

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

Thank you for the welcome.

Seems to me that as little air actually passes through breathers there would not be enough suction to suck in through the seals, which I believe is the greatest concern. It is pressure and as long as the air intake is larger that the throttle body the amount that would need to come through the breathers would not be a factor. Pressure follow least resistance like electricity. Or more like filling a glass with water, the input would be the pitcher and the glass would be the diff. Once the glass is full it runs over the table not necessarily altering the water already in the glass.

I was just wondering. I did the breather mod this morning and ran the four up front to the driver side fender and the rear to the jack compartment. But I had dealt with this stuff in the past. In one of my old rigs I ran in water over the hood with no snorkel and as long as I kept forward momentum the bubble created by the hood and fender left enough air space to not take in water. Of course on that rig i worked on it enough that I typically knew what it needed on a moment by moment basis. Never got water in my diffs either. I will take lucky over good any day.

Thanks for the write up, I never would have finished mine without it.
the photo tutors were fantastic.

Be well

Re: SCUBA Driver Transmission, Transfer Case, Rear Differential & E-Locker Breather M

Did the Scuba mod today. I used two red Spectre 3992 breathers (got them from Amazon @ $3.61) for the front (Transmission, Transfer Case) and rear Rear Differential & E-Locker). Amazon.com: Spectre 3992 Red and Chrome Cotton...Amazon.com: Spectre 3992 Red and Chrome Cotton...

I mounted them in the intake manifold bracket.

The T for the front;
