Yes, I'm a jackass!! I'm a lil' sick today and after going and re-reading my posts I realize the meds. are stronger than I think!!
Well, if you wanted to use the FJC rear axle it would take some serious work to the housing, considering you need to have custom axleshafts made, axle tubes changed, steering, and you are still running a Low Pinion diff which is ~20-30% weaker in the front due to the gears riding on the coast side of the gear set. If I was to build an axle for a rig I'd use a High pinion diff and have it 4-6" wider than stock wms-wms width... oh and it would be nice to have steering on it.

What is the WMS-WMS of the stock FJC rear axle? That Ford 44 is near full-width (IIRC). You get it from a pickup or 78-79 Bronco? On some years those C-wedges were cast and not welded, so it could become a problem if you try and cut them off.
To keep the budget low you could always run Duff or Cage lengthened radius arms mounted to those wedges. You would still have ridiculous flex and not have to worry about correctly setting up the 4 link.

I forget the number and I don't have my FJ....anyone else want to measure? When he did the measurements (back in March) I could see his wheels turning (and no smoke!) and I believe the difference will be minimal. *makes note to take all sorts of measurements to post when finished*
I'd have to ask him about which vehicle he got the axle from.
