Awesome mod Amanda! Can't wait to see your FJ in Ouray. BTW, you can also cut the wire to the the indicator LED (page 192) although black tape works just as well.

Finally stopped talking about doing it and started doing it!
We are 4 linking the front axle (only the front, as the thing freaks out without the electronics in the rear), using a high pinion dana 44. Custom job, no kit.
We have planned these mods to go with the SAC: 4.88's f/r, ARB, redoing all the links with thicker tubing f/r, 37" Iroks on 15" Marsh Racing Wheels.
Hope to be done after the 4th of July
Answers to future questions:
My camera is broken!!! so I only have camera phone pics for now and hoping to requisition another camera for close up pics
RIP ATrac It did a great job and I will miss it (for about 5 minutes ). Thinking black tape will be a temporary fix for the dash lights...
I have 30k miles, therefore not interested in warranty, yada, yada
How much? well, I sold my soul to this fabricator guy and I'm only paying for parts ARB & wheels being the most expensive.
There are others going on now that will prolly have 10x better write ups than myself.
I'm sure I'm missing some info....Whatcha think? Am I crazy?
WOW! I mean W O W! I thought you were cool b4 now this is just nuts.
Is your man doing the mod? (soul selling) How much do you wrench-it?
I wish i was going to the Summit to meet ya. Good luck and may the force be with u.

I know you didn't say too much about details, but what are you doing for a steering box? I just got my forward swing saginaw box for my 99 4Runner's SAS from PSC motorsports. It's a great box for the money (and is already ported for hydro assist at a later date). I know a lot of people use the IFS box from Toyota trucks, but rear swing makes placement a little more complicated. FJ60 and FZJ80 forward swing boxes are another option but are alot more expensive and not as tuneable as the Saginaws.
What about the front 4 link? Double triangulated or traditional? What about a panhard bar....I'd think you're gonna get a lot of bumpsteer unless you add one in.....and if you do that a 3 link would be a better compromise.
Link material? Rod ends? I'm thinking you're going to be WAY over $2k even with free labor unless you really skimp on the parts.
I'm not trying to be overly critical here....but I'm not sure you're making a truly informed decision. Who's telling you it'll be done for $2K?
Sean
This is an awesome project and I cannot wait to see the result of your SAS, and the numerous others that are happening. I agree with Sean though, even with a used axle and no labor costs, $2000.00 seemssss wayyy underpriced.

Steering, most likely the saginaw setup. Perhaps off a YJ.
Geometry....good question. Have to ask Phil what he has going on in his brain. (Sillyneck/SillyFab Service on Pirate4x4 if you venture there)
Link material, 2.5" DOM .250.
Truly informed decision eh? It's a project that we've discussed since I brought the vehicle home (March 06). Yes, everyone will have there opinions on it. The expense I'm incurring isn't comparable to others. 2k, not counting the link material we haven't purchased yet (enough to do front and rear). What I call nickel and dime will prolly end up being another 1500 (to do it right, I could cut corners). Labor = FREE Axle = FREE misc parts = FREE. These guys (SillyFab Service and Scully Offroad) are getting the parts we need at cost. I'm their accountant, I should know

Thanks for that info. Have been talking to a certain someone and he's been looking at several rewiring options. We'll have to see...
Miss FJ asked:
Did you just call me a trailer queen?
Nah, you're not a queen... you're a Goddess
Seriously, it's going to be an awesome rig. I just wish I was going to be in Ouray to see it. My company has picked that week to hold their global sales conference in frikkin' Orlando. Last place I want to be...
Here I was the first to name the Summit (not that somebody else wouldn't have come up with it eventually; it's just too logical) and I can't even go
There's an outside chance I'll come out for a cameo on Sunday. More than likely I'll just make my annual pilgrimmage to the San Juans in August when everything is fully open.
As the charter member of the white wheels club, may I say WELCOME!
I'm a little curious about the 15" though... what will you do in the back?
Oh, and please use an FJ80 solid axle. I have one on my mint 80 and it is built like a tank. A Ford axle is just so, well, Ford-ish.
Very innovative! Can't say I'd ever have the stones to carve up my beloved little cruiser like this. Maybe if I ever find a 2nd unit. I'll probably end up building up the FJ80 instead.

NOT GOING?!? WHAT! Guess its wrong to hope for a hurricane?
Go put a 15" on your rear...it will fit er, not your rear, your FJ's
It took a loooong time to convince them on the white wheels. Thanks to those who to pics before me they agreed
I am next in line for this but I will let MissFJ iron out the kinks... I need the tires and the lift to be able to take my FJC the places I want to go and keep up with the people in my clubs...
