winch bumper & supension

Alright, I have had my FJ for a year and am just now getting to toy with it. I have always had the RevTech (sp?) 3" lift, and I just barely slipped a set of the ProComp Xtreme AT 305/70/17s under w/o needing a chop. My question is, and may have been discussed a hundred times:

If I get one of the light, simple winch bumpers such as the Fab Fours w/o the bull bar, I am adding 108#, the a wench 80#?, minus the original 40#, that is 150# net. Seems like it should sit pretty much OK to me. Am I wrong? I can see how one of the heavier ones would be worse, but what is necessary? And, what is the most [b]practical[/B solution, if it needs to be done?

While I am at it, is there a way to mount a simple bar above the winch that would hold a couple of lights? Kind of a seperate simple bar? Can't get too many lights, and I can't clear the garage if I get much taller up top.

Thanks

I see now that I mistyped suspension, but you know what I mean.

Re: winch bumper & supension

I think your math is off. When you say 40#, are you referring to the stock bumper?

You wouldn't subtract that from the new bumper/winch weight. Those two combines would still weigh 188#.

Once you get into that weight, you'd be better off switching our your front springs to like an OME 886, something that can take that weight.

Re: winch bumper & supension

Yep, I like that one pretty good too. I know that you can install the Fab Four and later add the winch w/o taking the bumper off. Is that true of the All Pro? I like that price for the FF considering that it comes w/ lights and wires. I could add some up top, just can't go more than about 2" above the highest point on the roof rack... Which I don't know how much taller the tall point is than the front part where the lights would go. Expediton One's has it all, but once again don't know if it would require taking off the bumper to add the winch. Just happens that I know a guy that worked at Fab Four and told me his biases. I already liked that one anyway, too.

Re: winch bumper & supension

You'd have to take the all pro off to install a winch.

I like either the FF or the ex-1.

SFC,
Yes, I am subtracting the weight of the stock @ 40#. When I add it up I get around 150# net with the combo I listed, though some are heavier. What type of cost to replace springs? Is that needed?

Getting around the 200# area they would definitely be needed. Even with 150#, you might want to get a mild 885 spring. Springs would run you about off the top of my head, $150. Don't hold me to it.

You can check out Toytec Lifts - Specializing in lift kits and suspension accessories for your Toyota. They sell individual springs and Doug there should be able to tell you straight up what you need to do.

Re: winch bumper & supension

Thanks SFC,
Do you happen to know if the Exp One would have to be removed to install the winch (as if I will be able to wait b/4 I get one)? You seem like you might know off the top of your head. I'll leave you alone after that. I guess it's not that big of a deal, really. I plan to do it all myself. Except for the springs if I decide I need them.
