4x4 / Off-Road TechThis section contains all discussion related to taking the FJ Cruiser in Off-Road situations, 4x4 applications and any armor modifications.
they do not state if they are certified, but they do show them doing this

amd the talk like this
Engineering a bull bar requires careful consideration of a number of factors to ensure it properly serves its purpose. Factors such as vehicle design, crush rate, air bag deployment, approach angles, accessory fitment, strength, weight and aesthetics are accessed in every ARB bar before it enters production.
and this
Air Bag Compatibility
ARB air bag compatible bull bars and mounting systems are built to replicate the vehicle’s crush rate, thereby ensuring complete air bag compatibility without compromising protection levels.
Mounting Systems
Without a properly engineered mounting system that caters for individual vehicle designs, a bull bar is virtually useless. ARB mounting systems are vehicle specific and designed to spread impact over both chassis rails, thereby minimising damage caused by a collision.
LOL....are you aware that the tacoma in your picture is MINE?????
I had originally asked to try something like that...problem is, the front of the FJ is very 'tall'....the radiator hangs quite low, and if that Tacoma bumper were fitted onto the FJ, you would see about half your radiator hanging below the bumper....
I know it is from bent ups, read my post,I copied it from bent ups website. I state that it is a good design by Bent up
and why don't you make one like that for the FJ
I may be wrong but I didn't think that was Andy's product. I thought that was his bumper that bentup made for him. If that is the case this is pretty much a moot point, though I do see where you are coming from.
granger, read the post before you posted this, I think Andy is the AJ from Bent up
This is what I ordered:
Heavy duty bumper to withstand natures beautiful rocks, trees, animals, and ignorant people blocking off the trail.
What I don't want:
Crumple Zones. Get rid of them. All of them!
I hereby agree that I ordered and payed for a deadly bumper. Bentup is not liable for my decision. They just did what I payed them to do that can, and will not do them any harm.

I was under the impression that Andy and AJ were two different people since Andy was just going up every weekend or every other weekend to work on the bumper(s)?
Also- the bumper is not sheetmetal- in fact it looks like it might be as thick as the frame- and looks tougher than most of your wusspuss nylon recovery ropes. dang armchair critics think they can look at a picture, read safety crapola and be smarter than the guy who is designing and building the thing!
Been in my share of scraps- big and small. I learned that big tough strong welded steel is good.
Airchair critic here
who knows very few recoveries are from dead ahead of a vehicle, most are from a varying degree of a side angle, and that something welded to a peice of flat metal will still bend to the side causeing tremendous strain on the welds.

could be, I do not know.
so then Andy is a AJ groupie?

I agree - frame is much, much better to strap on to- but I still like the Darwin steps and think they will serve a very useful purpose
