Silencing those D-Shackles ....

Tired of those D-Shakles clanging like bells on the front of your aftermarket bumper?

I was. So I went to Lowes and started looking at the plumbing fittings and found a hard rubber washer that fits perfectly on the D-shackles 3/4" Shank.

I placed a few between where the Shackle and Mount meet. No more clanging and they were cheap .44 cents a piece. I used 3 on each shackle. The Washer was inside this fitting.

Re: Silencing those D-Shackles ....

Good Solution Silverdusk. Another approach would be to use a product such as Plasti-Dip Plasti Dip Consumer Products (same stuff you dip plier handles into for soft grip) and dip the shackle pin. Be sure to tape the pin threads so the dip doesn't adhere to the threads, then remove the tape. The plastic bushing may hold up longer than the dip, but it is easy to apply another coating of the dip should it wear thin over time.

A scrap piece of garden hose works as well.

Try epoxying a rare earth magnet to the bumper where the shackle hits. No more rattle.

Keep 'em in your recovery bag until needed. Also prevents theft.

Re: Silencing those D-Shackles ....

I tried the plasti dip stuff. Didn't last long. I ended up just using a zip tie on each one.
