how bout half can of beer. when it tips, you went to far.
When stuff climbs out of your cupholders you're getting real close.
I heard that the back side of the inclinometer ball is white, if you see the whites of the eyes you need to re-think your line.
But really: When you get close you can feel the offside wheels lift. At that point reverse direction and/or steering should back you down.
I had Bonnie up on the rear tail light in a rut at Tellico hard enough to crack the light. Someone ran up and stopped her from lying down but I was already backing off and she flopped back on the wheels.
Bottom line, if you need a guage you're not paying attention to the right things.

I think the owners manual said something about 30deg limit. Off-roading last week, I surpassed that on the gage and started to here a steady beep alarm. Anyone else experience this?
Haven't gotten over 30 yet, but that is good to know about the beep. I'm glad it has a built in warning. What page of the manual has the information about the 30 degree limit?

Well I hope I didn't speak too soon..I THINK the warning buzzer was for the incline. However, I can't find anything in the owners manual or other supplements saying it has that warning. The only other chassis-related continuous buzzer listed in the manual is for the VSC system if the hydraulic brake booster had low pressure, but VSC would be off in 4L. I don't know for sure what triggers it, but I swear the thing beeped at me!
As for the 30deg limit, I remember reading it somewhere thinking it was no coincidence that those values were on the inclinometer as well. I checked the manual quickly over lunch, and didn't see it there. I'll have to check some of my other resources....otherwise, it must have been the FJ Gods sending me a message in my sleep
I'll post a link if I ever find out where I read it.
Update: After an internet search for "side slope" I found some reviews claiming Toyota states 30deg upslope/downslope (coincides with the 30deg departure angle as the limiting factor), but also claims a 41deg side slope! After reading that in many reviews, I thoroughly searched all official Toyota documentation and can't find that claim anywhere. With as unstable as the vehicle felt at 30, I can't imagine pushing 41 in my ride...I care too much about it to want to risk flipping it on it's top!
