Maybe it's just me, but the article wouldn't come down the ether-pipe to my machine. Could you post the article here or cut/paste a synopsis?

I have read that article from OffroadAdventures Sept 07. It basically talks about producing a grenade in the Diffs. Stressing small axles with small pinions. It's a regearing article. 4.56 gears with a our Toyota 8 inch and 34 inch tires is a good sturdy setup. I'm confident with that setup. Bigger axles can go lower. But for the FJC 4.56 is the max, with running our current axles. We shall see and learn in the future. knock on wood. This FJC is still new.. I should be regeared in time for the meet and greet.

Re: Gearing vs Tire Size Article
Alot of that information about smaller pinions is misleading. Yep, many have less teeth on the pinion....but just how many teeth do you think are actually in contact with the ring as it rotates?
Might want to read this site....it's Toyota specific.
571 gear strength
Zuk is probably one of the most knowledgeable and experienced Toyota third member gear installers in the USA.
IME, the ratio isn't as much of a problem as proper set up.

Here are a couple of links that give ratios for different applications;
Rocky Road Outfitters:
Gear Calculator
Look on the left side of the web page for calculating applications;

Re: Gearing vs Tire Size Article
So 4.10 gears would be great with 34 inch tires.
I calculated a new ratio of 3.40:1 with 4.56 gears and 34 inch tires and a rpm of 2184 at 65 mph.
I agree the set up / install has to be great.
