It's just me...but I'm not used to being in such a high vehicle...so I really slow down for curves in the highway, etc........but I don't think you have to.
still getting used to towering over everyone

FJ should have no problems cruising at 80-85mph...I've cruised in my 96 landcruiser at those speeds and it's happy.
As for handling, depending on your driving skill from what I gathered on my test drive it's pretty capable of handling most turns if you know how to pick the right line. My landcruiser handles amazingly well for it's size...the FJ is probably a lot more capable than it lets on.
What rpms are you seeing at 80mph? I couldn't imagine it having a problem at those speeds with an auto...not sure how the 6-speed would be however, I'll take a guess and say they do fine as well.
6 speed is very low at those speeds........I don't know exact but I'd say about 2100 or so at 75-80. I just did a 6 hour trip and back another 6 hours this weekend...

That's what I was thinking...I would think the FJ is happy unless the rpms begin to climb, then I'd back off.
First road trip on I-90 was 75-80mph for several hours. Unfotunately it was raining with a 20-25mph headwind and I had the cargo carrier on top. Not too bad but I did get blown around a little with the wind but the gas mileage really went to hell! I'm sure top speed is over three digits...even higher if you drop it off a tall cliff.
On the way back gas mileage was much better at 70mph.
