Anyone ever winch themselves out of sand with a boat anchor?

Has anyone ever used a boat anchor to give yourself an assist to help pull yourself through some really soft sand like on the Outer Banks of NC?

No. But it might require a shovel too.

Yea, they work great and cost a hell of a lot less than a pull-pal! Just make sure you don't use one made for a jet ski...

Never tried it but it has been discussed on the board, this was also tossed around.

Every time I think about it I hear "Earth Angel" and Back to the Future.

Re: Anyone ever winch themselves out of sand with a boat anchor?

Are you saying we should keep a boat anchor with us as part of our recovery gear? I can picture it now. 25 jeepsters helping one lone FJer carry a boat anchor out of the back of his FJ and anchor it into the sand some 50 feet up the dune and then wench up to it. I could also see a few bystanders saying WTF! hahahaha

A Pull-Pal is a heck of a lot lighter.
