Jacking up the FJ....

Well it occured to me that after lifting with the OME kit and throwing 33" tires on I probably need to invest in a good jack.

-Is a Hi-Lift the way to go?
-Is it customary to keep this on your car at all times?
-If so, where do you mount it, or store it if you don't have a roof rack?

A hi-lift is a must off-road, but I wouldn't drag it around all the time. Check your factory bottle jack...it may have enough travel to still work (sorta doubt it, but you could check) If you need to haul around a Hi-Lift, there are several members that have mounted them just in front of the back seats near the floor. There are other options too...I'm sure you'll get posts pointing to those.

should a high lift *only* be used for offroad whereas a jack + some wood underneath it is better suited for driveway wrenching?

in the driveway you want to use jack stands. How you get the jack stand under there is up to you. but a jack if a better/safer then a hi-lift.

The problem with the hi-lift....there are no lift points on the truck unless you have aftermarket bumpers or sliders.....but I wouldn't wheel without one....

If you are talking only about jacking up the rig in the driveway to wrench on, get yourself a floorjack and some jackstands. You will have them FOREVER and, if you like to wrench, you will use the hell out of them. It's money well spent...if you consider the cost over how long they last, they are practically free.

I'm still using the floor jack that my dad was using in the 70's...same jackstands too. You don't need some gigabuck racing jack...just something nice and solid.
