You would have to ask URD to make sure. I know a SC is more than just a new SC, it has a lot more equipment that is installed on the system. I don't know if it all is water tight with all of those other conections. Plus I do know the system is very picky. It's not like an installed a CAI. If your thinking about this, I would PM URD and ask what the Spec's on the system is and if it is posible to even do something like that.....from what I know about SC, IMHO I don't think it will work and may not cover your SC if something happens. Joel, I would PM them and ask, I would like to know myself for sure...
I'm not really interested in the URD supercharger though, I am looking at the TRD if I ever supercharge my FJ. I expect the TRD to be much more application specific and more of a direct bolt on. I will PM some of the sponsoring dealerships and let you know what I find out...

Thanks

Re: ARB Safari Snorkel Install Instructions w/ Pics

From what I can tell, there should be no reason this can't be done (snorkel and S/C). The TRD S/C is a nice clean install (keep in mind this specific picture is a Tacoma and the FJ wil have a different fit kit) and it looks to hook up to the Throttle body and intake in their original positions, leaving me to believe the snorkel should have no effect on the supercharger.

This is just from what I can see, but the supercharger hooks into the TB and replaces the intake manifold bolting directly to the heads.

I agree Joel, It does look like it may work, it is different than the URD setup, but I would still ask to be sure. A SC is big $$$ to "try" something new to it that hasn't been doon before. Let me know what you find out, thanks

Re: ARB Safari Snorkel Install Instructions w/ Pics

Question Mike:
Quote:
Remove the RHS inner fender liner and the engine air intake duct from engine bay in accordance with the factory service manual.
After reading that I thought that I might have to pull my dual battery box out for a bit, but not so
The inner fender has 6 bolts through it for the battery box and the Painless solenoid.

You can see the black (mine is filthy from wheeling) plastic inner fender in my picture, and it does not interfere where the bolts are, so I should be good to go.

I take it most are waiting on their snorkels from a few of the group buys to come in still in the middle half of November.

Re: ARB Safari Snorkel Install Instructions w/ Pics

********ARB SAFARI SNORKEL to CAI INSTALL MOD********

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here are the "Special Tools" you will need to install the Safari Snorkel on your rig.

I removed my CAI box this afternoon to check dimensions for the intake.

The CAI box intake opening is oblong shaped. I thought this was going to be very challenging to find something that will fit over it and remain water tight.

So off I went to my local Hardware store exploring all the nooks and crannies for anything that would work. I was on a mission, the fate of the Snorkel / CAI group weighed heavy upon my shoulders. Alas, I may have found exactly what we may need. I made my purchase and rushed back home to disassemble my CAI again.

I found it would stretch perfectly around the strange shape opening and would secure it tight enough for no water to penetrate. The next problem was the reduced side is still to large, it needs to be another inch smaller in diameter.

So

I ran inside googled up the manufacture and went through all their fitting and low and behold the perfect one, the one that I have been searching for! Number 1002-43!

The I.D. is 5.25” x 3.38” I.D. awesome, so with part number in hand, I rush back down to my local hardware store, and ask if they would order one for me. They look in the book, and say, nope we can’t order that part, it’s not in our book. I say, ok, I’ll go order it online, thanks. I returned the other one.

I return home and jump on the computer and look up the number to the manufacture, and make a call. I speak to some lady on the other end. I ask her that I would like to place an order, she asks what’s the name of my company, I say, I’m not a company. She say’s sorry, we don’t sell to the public. I say ok, can I have one of your large pluming supply companies, I will buy it online. She say’s, I don’t know of any…Now I’m getting a little frustrated, so I state, that’s fine, I thank her, hang up and googled the part number with the name of the manufacture. I find an online hardware store and find the part 1002-43 then place my credit card order.

I recieved my Snorkel/CAI adapter (Fernco Part number Number 1002-43) it arrived in the mail.

I decided to test fit on the old breather part that I removed when I installed my CAI. It fit like a like a glove!, perfect.

I then test fitted the reducer on the CAI box, again, Perfect!

Ok, at this point the only unknown was the dia of the existing opening through the fender curtain going to the outside fender. I removed my CAI box, messured the opening which is at 4" in Dia.

I then messured the outside of the reducer end, it also comes out to 4" Dia, Perfect fit!

I then installed the box with the reducer on it into the engine bay area, it fit like a glove. The only other item we will need will be a small 4" hard pipe, like PVC to make up a short transition piece from the reducer to the "ARB Air entry Hose" this will tie in everything perfect. More details to come

Re: ARB Safari Snorkel Install Instructions w/ Pics

Thanks for the drill parts, I will have to see if my local Lowes has them.

I know the shop has them that will install my snorkel, but it is always nice to have new sharp drills to take to them.

I do not see them on Lowe's site, may have to try Sears.

Which is better, regular or arbored?

Regular
Bi-Metal Hole Saw 4 1/8"

Arbored
Bi-Metal Arbored Hole Saw 4 1/8"

You want the Arbored, here is why. When you do the "real" install, you will want to drill a "Small pilot hole first" then using the Arbored Hole saw you will drill out your larger hole. If use use one that is not arbored, you a have very LARGE chance if the hole saw "Wondering" over your fender, this will make you very unhappy when it does this. By having the arbor allows you to maintaine on course in the correct spot without this happing. I'll be posting up detailed instructions when we get to that point. I hope this helps.

Re: ARB Safari Snorkel Install Instructions w/ Pics

this might be a very dumb question, but if you have a snorkle (which pulls air in from outside the engine bay), do you really need a cold air intake kit also?

Couldn't you just buy an aftermarket filter that breathes a little bit better and install the snorkle on your old factory setup?

I understand some of you have already had he CAI for a while, but i'm considering both the CAI and a snorkle but haven't bought either yet...if I get the snorkle (and maybe a good aftermarket filter), is there any added advantage to the CAI kit....because i also want to increase my gas mileage, or would the snorkle sufficiently function as a cold air intake?
