I'm just a noob here, never done any serious off road work. I'd like some suggestions as to what I should be taking with me. I'll be with a half a dozen other "old timers" with a mix of heeps, broncos, and tacos.
I want to be prepared, but am not going to go as far as dumping the crappy bridgestones for TA's.
A highboy, and a recovery kit are on the list now. What else should I be thinking about?

Depends what trails you will be running. Moab has mild stuff, and crazy stuff too.
Tires will help. Sliders/rock rails will protect ya where you will need it. Other then that, get a dent puller....and bring spare underwear.

Who are the people that you are going with, friends? Sounds like they would know what you should bring and since you are going to be with them maybe you can coordinate camping gear, etc. Are you asking what you should bring meaning camping gear like tent, sleeping bag, food, stove, etc? Or do you mean gear for your FJ? I would suggest a better tire but you said you didnt want to do that, definitely some sliders as the slickrock around moab is notorious for claiming door damage and a good fullsize spare. Aside from that since you are new DONT wheel over your head on buy a map of the area when you get there. Do some of the light trails and actually you can pickup a copy of my magazine 4Wheel Drive & Sport Utility our last newstand issue that might still be around is out Moab guide poly bag issue that has an enture pullout about Moab, lodging, trails, history, etc...
Just remember to have fun and be safe.

Hey Mongo,
We are heading to Moab also in our week old FJ.
Be there next Thursday through Monday.
Going to swap the Bridgestones for either GoodYear Wrangler MTR's or BFG ATs.
Not planning on doing any scary stuff since the FJ is so new to me.
Still getting over the "it's not a blindspot" blindspot
We'll be driving the Titanium MT6 with factory steel wheels.
tire repair kit
firstaid kit
a good RECOVERY strap
a CB (most wheeelers use cb to communicate and call for help)
A decent set of hand tools
1 spare u joint (besides tires the most common thing to break wheeling)
a extra gallon of water for each occupant
a blanket for each occupant
a 12 volt compressor would be nice
maps of trails
