Impressive perfomace, but problems?

As a former fj40 owner, I finally got to try out the fjc. Had to pull my 22 foot jet boat out of the river here at Nahanni Butte NWT as we received 8 inches of wet snow and river is starting to freeze up. Needless to say the approach was extremely slippery and quite long and fairly steep. All I could say to my partner was, "I'll be some surprised if we can get this thing out!" Well, I was some surprised! After a first attempt in low range, I punched in the rear diff lock and after some scratching and spinning I finally hooked up and away we went! I know for a fact my 05 f150 never would have done the job! Now wondering why I purchased the winch! That being said I am sure I will need it soon. However I noticed a strange sort of ticking sound when I was under power coming up the grade. Is this normal, or indications of something bad happening, like rear diff issue. My manufacture date is 12/06. Thanks for any feedback!

Thumbs up Re: Impressive perfomace, but problems?

Thanks for the feedback, I was hoping the ticking was "normal". I think that I did have the a-trac engaged, and not the rear diff lock. Still experimenting. Takes a load off of my mind!.

Re: Impressive perfomace, but problems?

I've read some others with FJ40 and/or older Jeep experience say there is just no comparing the traction performance with the new FJC's drivetrain and traction programs. Given ground clearance, tires, and a steady feel at the controls an FJC should outperform older generation platforms with aplumb.

My 2 cents.

Re: Impressive perfomace, but problems?

I'm starting to agree, now if the cruiser can withstand the pounding my old fj40 endured, I'm going to be really impressed!

Good point. That does remain to be seen. We'll know soon enough.
