4x4 / Off-Road TechThis section contains all discussion related to taking the FJ Cruiser in Off-Road situations, 4x4 applications and any armor modifications.
Its a mini truck reduction housing just like every other unit of his. So it has the 2.28, 4.0, or 4.7 gears for options. The rest is adapters to bolt up the bell housing and the stock FJC transfer case.
Any dual case set up you will have to modify the gas tank there is simply no way around it. Right now we are acquiring a plastic welding gun so we can finish capping off the gas tank. You roughly lose about 3" of the stock tank.
As for the position of the rear transfer case it requires the triple stick shifter assembly and some "tough love" to the transmission tunnel (3lb hammer). The transmission tunnel slopes downwards so you have to go in there and beat it to help clear the remote shifters for the rear FJC case.
Great news, I also hear you have plans for the MT6, will it be the same ? and will we still retain full time 4wd.
Thanks.

I must have mistaken as well. I thought, when you responded, that you are somehow working with Marlin in this. So is Metal Tech developing your own crawl gears?

No, we have the the reduction housing and the adapters already made from Marlin. We will be the first to install this new set up in our FJC. All the development of the dual case set up has already been completed by Marlin. You will have to ask him about the manual. Our FJC has the automatic transmission.

That's fantastic! I'm only interested in the automatic as that's what I drive. When do you expect to finish the installation and testing?

This is awesome, so there's now a nice range of reduction box and tcase swap choices:
1. Add a reduction box to the stock tcase: Marlin and Inchworm (reduction) - both with a nice selection of ratios -> these make an effective 4sp tcase
2. Replace the stock tcase to get non-stock ratios: Inchworm ("lefty") -> this is just a 2sp for 2sp swap
3. Add a reduction box and swap the stock tcase: Inchworm (do you know if you can combine a Marlin box with an Inchworm lefty?) -> this gives an effective 4sp tcase
4. Replace the stock tcase with a single unit 4sp tcase: Atlas -> this is a 4sp tcase

What a difference a year makes...
Marlin uses Toyota mini-truck reduction boxes just like Jim at Inchworm. They are essentially the same housing, but they use different reduction gears/parts inside and of course their adapter plates are different. Therefore, you can bolt up a Marlin box to a Inchworm adapter plate and the same goes for bolting an Inchworm box up to a Marlin plate. Matter a fact there are a number of people that are running both Inchworm and Marlin boxes in their vehicles. When it comes down to it the cases are OEM Toyota cases, so the bolt patterns are the same. If one wanted to run an Inchworm Lefty tcase with a Marlin reduction box you could provided you purchase the correct set of adapter plates to bolt them all together.
