I posted this here because I am not looking to do this as a VISUAL MOD. I want to mount a Jerry Can on this thing because I know that if I don't, at some point I will be wishing I had one.
1. I wouldn't want it there all the time. I don't wanna look like some poser who bought the FJ to look cool. I would want to be able to mount it there in a few minutes while I was packing my gear. How difficult would that be?
2. AND MORE IMPORTANTLY. That's alot of weight. How much should I worry about the door bracket handling that extra load?
any imput would be great.

Also works fine for me...I'm looking to mount a fuel can up on the roof rack and not the spare tire for those same concerns about the extra weight on the door hinges. I'd really be concerned about that monstrosity of a winch back there. Can't do a whole lot for approach angles!! Also, I've got my Yakima bike rack to mount on the spare tire, so any fuel cans will have to go elsewhere.
On the can aspect, I don't think that it would stress the door hinges too much...they are quite beefy. A full can will add approximately 45lbs. (Calc. based on water weighing 8lbs/gallon x 5 gal. plus 5lbs for the can.)
Your other option is to mount the Jerry can to the roof.

I believe the specific gravity of gasoline is less and it will therefore weigh less. Un-less (pun intended) you plan to put water in it - in which case I'm really confused <s>. And your FJ will hate you.
If memory serves me correctly it's somewhere around 5 1/2-6 lbs.gal. So maybe more like 35 lbs (?)
Kansas Law Dog - I know you'll know....of course, so would google but I'm not looking.

Yeah, wasn't sure about that one...thanks for the info. But that fares even better...less weight. It shouldn't be a problem...I've seen guys doin' the Rubicon with spare tire can mounts for years. And if it was a problem, they most likely would not be showing it at SEMA...just stands to reason...

I've also been thinking about this mount. After long deliberation, i've decided to build my own. Here's my thinking:
This is a Con Ferr can carrier using a Con Ferr wheel adapter. That in itself is fine, should be strong enough to carry the weight. The problem is that you must use this carrier with a Blitz brand jerry can. I've heard lots of stories of the Blitz cans that always leak. Plus being in CA, we hafta have those CARB compliant cans, which have that plastic nozzle... another reason not to rely on the Blitz can.
