Going with the RevTek Lift.. need opinions re: Wheels/Tires

I'm thinking very seriously about doing the RevTek Lift kit. Regardless of my decision on the lift, I will definately be purchasing new wheels along with new tires. For tires I am going with Hankooks DynaPro. I haven't heard anyone talk much about them, but FWIW, they are great tires. Excellent tread life, low noise and they look fantastic! I'm still not sure if I want to go with 285's or stay with 265's. I was originally going to stay with the 265's because I was simply going to find a leveling kit for the front. Now that I am leaning towards the RevTek Kit, I am not sure. I really don't want to sacrifice gas mileage and I don't see too much of a difference. Do you guys think 265's would look too small with the lift kit? What about mileage? Has anyone with 285's done a before and after comparison?

As for wheels, I am leaning towards the Ultra Type 185 (Baja Champ). I prefer the Ultra Type 164, but they only come in a 17x9 and I am concerned that the 9" wheel will cause rubbing. As far as rubbing goes, the width concerns me more than the increased height of the 285's. I'd love to see some pictures of aftermarket wheels that you guys have purchased. I'm not into bling, but I do want something different than the stock wheels. I really like the ones on the RevTek FJ's, but I can't tell what they are from the pics I have seen. The Black one has something similar to the Utlra Type 164 and the Yellow one ( in the pics posted by TranMan) has some nice ones as well. Any thoughts?

Re: Going with the RevTek Lift.. need opinions re: Wheels/Tires

Don't know if you've read any of my posts on this topic specifically.

265 imo would be too small with the lift. Check out the revtek FJ's. They are running 285 and look great. Very proportional. Even if you just do a leveling kit, get 285's. Who cares about mpg. U lose 2 at most (i think).
stock rim is 17x7.5 or 7. Make sure you get a 16 or 17x8 rim with 4.5" of backspacing (as told by revtek rep/owner). 17x8 will cause the tires to stick out 1"?. Gives it a more aggressive stance and increase stability. Looks better too. I saw a revtek lifted fJ with the stock rims and BFG. Didn't like it as much. looks too tall and skinny imo.

Here's a link to their pics.

I was afraid 285 would be too small for the 3" lift until I saw that yellow rig in person today. Also got to drive it. I am definitely getting the revtek lift. I just bought 285 BFG AT. Buyers remorse. It's dumb, but the tires are 11.5 wide and I would rather have a 12.5 wide tire. too late, guess I'll just enjoy them. I'm sure they'll be fine with the lift.

Joe cruiser, I talk to revtek yesterday. a 17x9 wheel and you'll have to trim. You're right, they're too wide. 17x8 is perfect though. so have you've gotten the lift yet? Pics man!

You can always go with the wheel the Revtek FJ has on it (the demo truck that have at Revtek - the Black lifted FJ - **** Cepeks - they are not too spendy either, about $160 each ...

Tranman, do you know what type of wheels that black FJ is rocking in the Revtek gallery link you provided?

I am aware that beadlocks are illegal for road use, however, I'm very partial to those that are pictured in the photo gallery.

Thanks.

You mean these? That black revtek fj is running the same wheel, just all polish aluminum. These are painted black. same wheel tho.

Funny you brought these rims up, b/c American Discount tried to sell me these after the unique rims I order didn't fit. I passed tho. They quoted me a price of $125/rim.

I think they are the Helo wheels HE791 Maxx6 17x9

Re: Going with the RevTek Lift.. need opinions re: Wheels/Tires

I called Revtek earlier today and spoke to Ralph(nice guy btw) and he told me that he had D ick Cepek's for the video meet that the fellas from Or. had.

But I am really partial to the black FJ in the Revtek gallery.
Pics 2, 6, 7 and 9.

I would have posted the pics, but the forum wasn't allowing me to.
I haven't gotten past 15 posts.

I would like the Helo "Big Dogs" if they came in black or a maybe a fake beadlock trim.
