********ARB SAFARI SNORKEL to CAI INSTALL MOD********
The I.D. is 5.25” x 3.38” I.D. awesome, so with part number in hand, I rush back down to my local hardware store, and ask if they would order one for me. They look in the book, and say, nope we can’t order that part, it’s not in our book. I say, ok, I’ll go order it online, thanks. I returned the other one.
ve!, perfect.
I then test fitted the reducer on the CAI box, again, Perfect!
Ok, at this point the only unknown was the dia of the existing opening through the fender curtain going to the outside fender. I removed my CAI box, messured the opening which is at 4" in Dia.
I then messured the outside of the reducer end, it also comes out to 4" Dia, Perfect fit!
I then installed the box with the reducer on it into the engine bay area, it fit like a glove. The only other item we will need will be a small 4" hard pipe, like PVC to make up a short transition piece from the reducer to the "ARB Air entry Hose" this will tie in everything perfect.
All the tools ready for the Surgery today
One last pic of the untouched passenger side fender.
Everything laid out ready to go.
I used masking tape to tape the fender up to reduce any damage to the paint. This will also help me see the marked holes from the template because of the Black vehicle color.
The template taped up and in position, ready for marking the hole locations.
I decided to go ahead and cut the large hole first and get it over with. One nice BIG hole in the fender.
I finished drilling out all the other holes as per instructions. After cutting the holes make sure to add some touchup paint around the exposed metal to keep it from rusting.
I then taped up the A-pillar for the holes that need to be drilled for the Snorkel attachment.
I installed the reducer fitting and a small piece of PVC to make up the transition to the Snorkel to the reducer.
You will need to remove your CAI completely from the engine. This will help installing the CAI box back in without trouble.
After alot of measuring, I found I needed to remove about a 1/2 inch from the CAI box inlet.
I also had to remove about another 1/2" from the reducer. This was removed from the CAI box side of the reducer. I also had to remove about 3" from the ARB rubber hose that comes off the Snorkel into the engine bay so that the mockup would fit. I would cut a little off, test fit, then cut some more off and test fit again until you have a good fit.
I found the best way to install is removing the reducer from the CAI box, then install the reducer FIRST on to the Snorkel, clamping it up. THEN install the CAI box to the reducer.
Reinstall the rest of the CAI to the engine, tighten everything up and your ready for some SCUBA Driving.
ARB Safari Snorkel Installed but still have to button up the inner fender liners.
