It will actually probobly make for a better set up, and th cost won't be as bad as you would think, plus we'll be able to subscribe a tow capacity equal to toyotas, rather than just stamping on it, " for recover use only".
Keep us up-to-date. I'm still listening.

Were also working on a specially reinforced model for those of you that are in a high dear populous areas

This sounds interesting, I would resemble that. A picture of the reinforcement would be nice to see what you are talking about. Thanks

Re: Expedition One Front Bumper

What is the weight of the front bumper? Is there any long term negative effects of carrying alot of front end weight other than fuel economy?

thanks

Re: Expedition One Front Bumper

Grit, I believe the front weighs about 105 lbs and as far as long term, I would say front sag without a lift or better shocks. Other than that, it would be hard to say, time will tell.

When we have the design closer to being finished we'll post it up.

So far the long term (how ever long pauls has been on his) effects have been suspension sag, and thats about it. I don't think there is anyway of getting away from it, the front end is going to droop. It took a wile to notice on Pauls. Initially the front end only dropped about 1/2 inch, now its probobly more like 1". On his it looks almost normal becuase he had more lift in the front to begin with. Also If your going to add a rear bumper that is going to counter act the sag in the front a bit.

Right now were looking into offering a small spacer lift to counter act the sagging, for those that don't want to, or can't afford adjustable coilovers....

Re: Expedition One Front Bumper

stage one, no skid plate, lights, or winch:

The Good:
- the bumper structural design and overall fabrication is very impressive.
- the initial fit is very good. Sliding the bumper onto the OEM studs was pretty easy. Be prepared to hold the bumper level while the first few nuts are installed, to protect the bodywork under the headlights.
- The powdercoat is thick and even.
- James is definitely interested in customer service, and wants to address any difficulties.

The Bad:
- the bumper showed up without the box it came in. And thus no hardware or fairlead option. The lights, winch and bracket reinforcements, and skidplate were packed inside the bumper, so they made it ok. James is reshipping the hardware and fairlead.
- no box also meant a few more spots of missing powdercoat, due to the Fedex handling of the bumper. Touched up with paint, no worries.

and The Ugly:
- Fedex bent the upper corner near the winch opening, such that it contacts the grille. When the bumper comes off for the winch and lights install, I'll bend it down a bit.
- There's a small amount of weld splatter near the shackle points, which I'll likely dremel down and touch up. Yes, I'm OCD like that.

Overall, I like it a lot. The bumper sticks out further than the AllPro, which I wanted due to the idiot drivers in my area. IIRC, it's 7" from the front surface to the grille lower frame. The winch mount looks like any monster will fit, but I'm going with a Warn M8000. Hopefully I'll have the winch by Friday, and the final install by Monday. I haven't bothered to check the Donahoe sag numbers yet, but will after the winch goes in.

more to follow...
