Question Exhaust Crossover Protection

I have seen where someone actually cut there crossover
and reworked it. I am NOT into this for warranty reasons.
Has anyone considered any kind of protection for this
exhaust pipe? Man I can't believe this thing...

Re: Exhaust Crossover Protection

It does look exposed. And it looks like fabbing some protection for it will be tricky too. But my question is: Has anyone trashed it yet? If anyone has it's probably the Toyota Trail Team but they wouldn't admit it would they? Rooster? At least they "pre-flattened" it for us.

Re: Exhaust Crossover Protection

My position on this crossover exhaust pipe has changed. Originally I agreed with everyone that this was an oversight by Toyota. But lately I have thought that if the lowest hanging item is an exhaust pipe, it wouldn't be critical to the operation of the vehicle it is got sacrificed. The pipe seems to be very strong and unlikely to pinch off the exhaust even with a big impact. To design a skid plate for it would mean the clearance under the vehicle would be less because the skid plates would hang lower. If the crossover was rerouted and raised (like MacTiki did - and very nicely too) it increases the clearance, but then we need to think about what is the next lowest item to get high centered? Unfortunately, the one that seems to be the best candidate after the exhaust pipe is the gas tank skid. I guess I would rather have the crossover pipe bounced long before smacking the gas tank skid plate hard. However, I am not writing this to discourage people from looking for a solution, but to point out the crossover pipe may not be a big blunder by Toyota. My $0.02, actually may be an over evaluation of my contribution to this topic.

Re: Exhaust Crossover Protection

MacTiki did a great exhaust write up some time ago, I found it with a search, but was unable to attach a link. Check it out, complete with pics.

Re: Exhaust Crossover Protection

As Law Dog stated, MacTicki came up with the best solution. His remedy is to kick the stock pipe to the curb and do a custom mod. It will give you better clearance. It is a cheaper/better solution to adding the TRD exhaust.

Re: Exhaust Crossover Protection

I've been keeping an eye out for someone to come out with a skid-plate to cover it up. Haven't seen anything as of yet. I would feel considerably more comfortable having it protected.

I love it pre-flattened

As a matter of fact, those in the demolition derby scene DO pre smash there cars. When done correctly one can make a really nice BATTERING ram out of a 75 Chevy sedan LOL

Yea, the best solution if you care not of a warranty, SURE, I am down with it.
