Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

I wish the ladder attached to the rack itself on some sort of a hinge so you can fold it up to have access to the window.
I use my window alot but the ladder looks so cool. decisions

Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

Wow, I really like the GOBI rack and they seem to have thought of all the attaching points, like hi-lift and the shovel. It looks like I could even add a jerry can on top as well. I really like the stealth rack. the only question I have is that will all the accesories work on the stealth rack, the demo picture shows them on the regular rack?
thanks for all the info, it certainly turned my head and I will add the rack when I can

Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

Hi there,

Anyone have any updates on the wind noise of the Gobi stealth? Is the noise unbearable or not too bad? Thanks! I have a 6 foot 8 inch parking garage at work and I am not sure the factory rack will fit??? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

Anyone hear if Gobi offers the stealth rack without the "bump" in the front (lightbar)? Thx! I did not see that option on their website, gobiracks.com

It should fit until you hit about 6'4" assuming stock height with factory rack. That said, I changed to the Gobi and appreciate the extra few inches of clearance I get. I doubt if Gobi sells an alternative without the bump up front. I do worry that it is now the highest point on the truck -- if I hit something up top, would it open me up like a sardine can?

Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

I just ordered the rack yesterday. I've been told that the rack comes pre-wired, but I don't plan to install the lights anytime soon. Are these wires covered up somehow or are they just hanging out there? I can't seem to find this info on the instructions.

Also, any recommendations or suggestions for installations?

Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

I have the ARB rack with the same mesh bottom... any ideas or recommendations on how to clean underneath it?

Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

They are hanging out about 4" at each corner. They come wrapped in a plastic bag which also contains a connector, so if you pull off the bags make sure not to throw them away, it is hard to see the connector in there.

You can tape up the wires with black electrical tape if you are going to install later, or if you are never going to install lights, then you can probably tuck them back in and seal the hole with a grommet or something.

The instructions for the light install are here: Toyota FJ Cruiser: Resources & Documentation Archive You will need to order some spare clips. I need to do that also.

As far as the rack installation. It is pretty straightforward as shown in the instruction you linked. If you have a factory rack, you will needs some star-shape torque bits to remove that with a ratchet. The installation requires another person when you lift the stealth rack onto your vehicle, other than that it is simply putting some some bolts through the new plates that cover/go through the existing mounting receiver, bolting on the new Gobi brackets, lifting up and aligning the rack, and bolting it on before tightening everything up.

Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

TIP: To extract the 10mm nut from the inside for the outside A-pillar (garnish) cover.

Step 1: Use a 10mm deep socket to loosen completely the nut. If nut is still on the A-Pillar bolt then proceed to step 2.
Step 2: Push the wire loom over the nut and extract.

The wire loom actually works like a grab hand. It is smaller than the 10mm nut so it goes over it tight enough to extract with ease.

Cheers,

Sometimes improvising leads to great discoveries!

Now: Can anyone hook a brother up for those A-pillar clips ? Toyota is telling me a 2 week wait.

Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

Thanks for the tips.

How difficult was it to get to lift the rack up on the roof?
