Thanks for the tips.

How difficult was it to get to lift the rack up on the roof?
You can do most of the install by yourself, but you will definately need at least one other person to lift into place.

Regarding the wiring, If you are not installing lights, just leave it in the plastic and zip tie it to the rack tightly making sure water would not get into the wrapping.

Also they gave me metal brackets to attach to where the lights would go. Really helped with the wind noise. I attached reflectors up there so they wouldn't look like black false teeth. Now I barely hear any wind at all. I will probably get lights soon, but those brackets did the trick for the noise. I would make sure they include it with when they send your rack.

Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

It sounds easy, but I'm just afraid to screw things up.

As noobish as this sounds, does anyone have pics of them lifting the rack on the roof? My old man wants to do it using a hoist/string...

I'm a fat, old, stupid person and did it on my own. Put it on my PullPal matt (cover) and pressed it up from behind. Two people should easily be able to do it. Get more people if you are worried. Once it's on you will not regret it.

Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

I haven't gotten a chance to install yet due to work and family emergencies.

I plan to put a matt/blanket on top. Then with the help of someone else, lift the rack up and push it from the side. Does this sound reasonable? I just don't want to scratch or dent the roof.

Are these the brackets you were talking about:

You'll need Yakima Claws to attach your crossbars to the Gobi. I did that with my ARB rack and they work great. It's an easy thing to strap my 9'1'' on top.

I was under the impression that Yakima attachments will fit directly on the two Gobi crossbars, so that you wouldn't need Yakima mounts or Yakima crossbars. Do I have that wrong?

yes and no...the attachments fit to the Gobi as it's the same tubing. But for my application (surfboards), I needed the crossbars above the rack because the rails would get in the way. Other than that, yes when I was checking out racks...GOBI did verify that their tubing was a fit for Yak.
