Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

Let me know if I miss a question.

FJinAK,

Once I deicde how to do it I will be sure to post pics. I have been waiting to see how Toyota wires their Airdam lights and will probably hold off until I see that document. If it takes too long then I'll be forced to think of something.

No idea on a lubricant. I was satisfied with how well the Toyota waterproof washers worked I didn't look into it. Let me know if you find a good solution.

KLD,

I thought it would overwhelm the lines of the FJ character, but it doesn't
Couldn't agree more. I think it will look even better once the lights are installed.

iCruiser,

how much for the gobi?
The Gobi is considerably more expensive then the factory rack. That being said I feel it is worth every penny.

Rack: $1,499 plus shipping
Ladder: $300 plus shipping

Quote:
could this be because the mounts are not as robust as the OEM? flat steel vs tubes, and larger diameter overall?
Maybe the flat steel carries the vibration easier, but I wouldn't say they are weaker. If I wasn't clear before, it is a vibration carried from the door slamming to the metal mesh floor of the gobi rack. The mesh area was able to support 240lbs without much sagging becuase of the many cross beams, so I wouldn't worry about it failing with a resonable amount of weight.

Landrover,

Sounds like you would like the Ranger model better but to answer your question, the Stealth is designed to handle lights the size of the 1500XTs.

Ranger and Stealth are the same price.

Ah ha.....I do like the bigger lights on the Ranger, but like the low profile look of the Stealth rack. Might just have to go with the smaller lights unless you can fit the bigger lights somehow.

Are the XTS's euro, pencil, driving, flood lights, or can you choose the beam pattern?

Driving lights for the front, Fog for the back.

You can get the ladder w/o the rack right? Might have to wait a bit for that rack at almost $1500. That's a long way to a wich, suspension, tires, audio, etc......, but I would like to get the ladder to make loading up the stock rack that much easier.

Yup! Very easy to install and requires no drilling. They do have some adhesive strips on the ladder that stick to the body molding that I opt'd not to adhere. It may mean that I have to check on the mounting bracket but at least I can get my ladder off very easily if I want to open the back window.

That is a great looking rack and ladder! When you get your ARB are you going for a lift? If so, have you decided which one. I sure wish I didn't order the Toyota rack. That Gobi is sweet.

As of right now I have no plans to lift my FJC. On paper I can live with the sag the ARB is going to cause, if it or my handling suffers I will revisit a suspension upgrade. In that case I have been looking at the OME, Danahoe and All Pro lifts. I just put new tires on my truck and I know if I lift it I will want to go bigger.
