Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

Wow. That's the best looking rack (aside from the photo contest) that I've seen so far. Another thread had pics from the GOBI website, but it's nice to see pics that aren't from a commercial vendor.

Are the connectors/brackets a seamless fit AND bomb proof?
What's the danger of rust between the GOBI connectors and the FJ pre-drilled female threads.
Do Yakima products fit on those round tubes?
Is that ladder bending the door frame (I assume it just rests there)?

Great looking rig.

The hardware is bombproof. Lining up the holes on the bracket and the holes on the rack took some effort but once I got it right, it looks incredible.

The waterproof washer that comes on the FJC is retained for the GOBI installation, so I would say no more so then the factory rack or factory caps. The caps that were on my truck were not watertight.

Yup

When my less then light 240lbs climbed on the ladder to get on the roof the door did not budge at all. So far, I don't see this being and issue.

Thanks!! It will look better once I get the PIAA 1500xts installed.

So far I have not noticed any noise but I have not really driven over 40mph. On Tuesday I'll be on some major roads (65+) and should have more to report then. Also, when I add the lights it could add some sound.

The only new noise is when I shut my doors, you can hear the floor of the rack vibrate from the force of the door shutting. Only lasts a second and makes a "boing" sound.

Granger...
Let us know how you ran the wire for the PIAA's when you're done...if you take step-by-step pics--even better!

Do you or anyone else know what lubricant is the better/best choice to keep out the water between rack brackets and OEM female threads?

Granger - I have admit that I never thought the Gobi rack would look as good as it does. You have way better foresight than I do, I thought it would overwhelm the lines of the FJ character, but it doesn't. Congratulations.

Re: Installed the GOBI Stealth yesterday

Cool Rack! now I gotta rethink the rack thing. recently installed the OEM rack, which looks good but functionally limited without more attachments.

how much for the gobi?

could this be because the mounts are not as robust as the OEM? flat steel vs tubes, and larger diameter overall?

Yep.....I hate you Granger. Now I might have to reconsider the stock rack. I do like the big lights on the stock rack/airdam, can you go bigger than the XTs that you're looking at?
