Your pals did a great job on the body mount chop. I imagine there aren't too many FJ Cruisers running around in the UK.

Just got my pals in sunny (not) England to do the body mount chop for me. They made a slick job of it and I'm really pleased with the result - they told me they cut down the original lines of the mount, took off the front plate ground the mount back, then put the original front plate back on. 17x9 AR Teflon Chambers arriving at the weekend, not sure if they'll fit before I stick the DR lift on. There is approx 30mm of clearance with stock alloys and 285 Cooper STTs. will let you know and post pics. Stu

I saw one other FJ at the docks when I picked up mine back in May07, never seen another on the road. Round London it gets more looks than a Lamborghini, not sure whether that's good or bad though.

has anyone just chopped off the end of the body mount and left it like that? is it definitely unsafe?
I might do the quick steel thing. What brand should I use...
Stig--I havent boxed mine yet, but plan to in the future. there is a respected offroad shop near me that has been doing "the chop" for years on tacomas/etc and never boxes them in. I have been wheeling with them unboxed and have not noticed any problems. Structurally, it should be OK without boxing. But I'm not crazy about the fact that the rubber bushing is now totally exposed to any crap that can be thrown up from the tires/road. I'm going to box them for a little added protection and peace of mind, although it is probably fine without.

I'd definitely box it back in again - not sure if it's unsafe to leave as is but it won't be as strong as the original shape.

Ya I guess there could be failure in the body mount after a while without a little boxing...
How bout just cutting halfway between the rubber and the end of the body mount... and then just bending in the bit that is close to the tire.
Very neat job, and smoother than a cashmere codpiece !
