Re: Road Armor bumper installed!

Very cool. Two follow-up questions:

1) If you had mounted the control box, say, in the engine compartment (I think I saw that elsewhere on this forum), would you still have had to bend and protect the AC line? Or does the RA bumper pretty much require manipulation of the AC line no matter where the control box is located?

2) PIAA lights... Difficult to install? Difficult to wire? Did you wire to a new switch on the dash?

THANKS!

Re: Road Armor bumper installed!

#1: I suggest you do push the AC line back a bit to make sure you get no rubbing. I recall not needing to move the line while mounting, but don't quote me on that. So if you mount the box else where it should be fine. I would do the fuel line mod for piece of mind. The fuel line cost was about $2, and took about 30 seconds to put on after cutting it.

#2: Oh, the lights... Yeah, put those bad boys on BEFORE mounting the bumper. It would be a real pain to try to put those on after the fact. I mounted the PIAA switch under the steering wheel out of site for now. I plan on putting it on a Tacoma Fog light switch into one of the FJ's blank switches for a factory look.

The wiring is easy if you follow the PIAA instructions. The lights come with their own relay. Only need to hook up the power, ground, and the power on line.

Re: Road Armor bumper installed!

FINALLY got my RA on today! Paid to have it done, but the instructions are a bit lacking in detail and the shop didn't want to chance trimming the wheel well flaps incorrectly...so that's left up to me.

Can you possibly get some pictures of your front wheel wells and explain how you trimmed and then fastened the remaining platic to the bumper?

THANKS!

Re: Road Armor bumper installed!

Nice installation job, especially on that control box.

Sorry for the delay, I was out wheeling this weekend!

I just eyeballed the the plastic and trimmed off what I thought would work. I didn't remove any of the plastic.
Here is a pic, hope this helps.
