Well, I don't actually own an FJ, so my opinion shouldn't matter much, I am just basing it off experiance. I own a 2nd gen Xterra and have a Shrockworks bumper. This bumper comes with a full front skid that goes from the bumper to the lower part of the crossmember. I have hit this skid on plently of rocks and the skid helped me up and over them. The first gen Xterra's with the ARB bumper has more of a design like the DO and people often hit that flat spot on a rock and get hung up.

I have always been one to take function over form. I don't care if it looks odd as long as it serves a purpose.

Is the winch line hole pointing at the ground at a (close to) 45º angle?

If it is and you are doing a flat pull the winch line would come out and bend at a 45º angle putting un-needed stress on the line where it meets the fairlead. If you are doing a pull up then it could require the line to bend at a 90º. The only way I can see this winch line position to be any good would be if you were at the top of a hill and winching someone up.

Oh, and as for the hoops, I like the drivers side where it dips before it meets the center hoop. The passanger side looks like it's sloped (from the angle of the photo).
I took some pictures with and with out the flate on the bottom. If someone wants to post them let me know.

For the winch it lines up perfect with where the cable comes out of the winch. It's a straight shot. And after looking at it again we couldn't make it come out where the DO is because it would be way to high unless your towing up hill. We tried to keep the winch low so it had maxium strength off the frame mounts where the bumper bolts to the frame. We could have either brought the bumper down to meet it and make for less ground clearence or we could have brought the winch up and had to modify the core support.

Keep the feed back coming.

I like it...without the DO. My vote goes for the single hoop....but something would need to be done with the skid plate underneath. I don't know...it looks kind of.....unfinished???? I don't know if that's the right word, but...
thanks for the feedback. The DO is pretty much gone for now. We might actully offer it both ways. Maybe the bumper with the DO will run 599.00 and the one with out will run 659.00..lol

Love the single hoop design. Looks much cleaner and more professional than the all-pro. Let me know when you put it into production. So far a my favorite. Also like the Expedition One, but have not heard or seen more from them in over three weeks.
We are putting it into production. I just wanted to run it by everyone to get opions.

Re: Demello Front Bumper Thread

You should be able to attach the photos right to your post.

If you look at this photo, you can see a scrap mark in my skid where it got my over a rock that would have other wise got hung up on the cross member.

**Don't laugh at the tires, this is an old pic, I have since got BFG MT's

Ok, the opening just looked at an odd angle. Maybe it's the photo.

Jason, What about a tube style/ pre runner bumper? Less plate, except for the skid plate.

Thats what I was talking about we felt that it was better not to hit a plate and clear the bumper, then to make a plate that asked to be hit?

I tried to attach pictures lets see if this works?

Re: Demello Front Bumper Thread

But I would rather hit the plate and have it act as a ramp than hit the front cross member at 90º angle. If you are going to hit the plate, you are going to hit the cross member.

EDIT:
I assume that blanket is suposed to be a rock. Now, you hit that skid on the rock, the skid acts as a ramp and allows you to slide up and over the rock. Without that skid, you have that lower cross member...you approch that rock, you try to go over it and end up slamming your crossmember into the rock and it stops you dead cold.

We will look into a tube style bumper in a couple weeks. We have gotten a lot more request for a plate style so that is where we started with it. give us a couple weeks and see what we come up with.
