Warning Tire cover and Car wash

I just took my FJ to the car wash, the blowers blew the spare tire cover right off, the cement floor beat the Sh!t out of the cover, pretty scrapped up, hoping some zaino can fill in the 50 scuff marks . So, take of the cover off before entering.

Re: Warning Tire cover and Car wash

You must have killer car washes down there. I hope it wasn't one of the Lechmere washes that's my brother inlaw. I've only been through the carwash once but no problems. Thanks for the heads up.

Re: Warning Tire cover and Car wash

ahh, that's so sad, ruebarb! sorry to hear that! was the entire carwash automated, or just the drying part?

i'm going to handwash mine for a very long time... i'm terrified those automated carwashing machines will destroy the paint job, and especially the big side mirrors and bumper things and tail lights...

my mom was at the do-it-yourself carwash the other day, and she found one of those sponge washers on a telescopic handle... like new... she just dropped it off to me a few moments ago, she thought i might need it for cleaning my fj... (i'm 5' 4", so kinda hard to reach the top and the center of the windshield...)

I usually hand wash my FJ, but it was dirty and still had some mud I hadn't rinsed off yet. So figured car wash would get the 1st layer of dirty off, so when I wash tomorrow I can focus on really scrubbing the paint and getting off the really tiny speks that don't come off wihtout ample scrubbing and pressure. The thing that is eating away at me was the guy at the wash said make sure you check the cover when you're done so it doesn't blow off (ie when driving). I think he should had said the cover is going to blow right off inside the wash, then I would have removed it beofre going through, ahh so close to preventing this. Never had a cover come off before.

Re: Warning Tire cover and Car wash

wow, sounds like maybe he knew that might happen but didn't warn you properly.

with as much fun as i've been having driving the fj offroad, i've managed to avoid mud thus far... there are so many nooks and crannies on the fj... i can only imagine how difficult it will be to clean when i can no longer ignore the allure of the mud...

Re: Warning Tire cover and Car wash

I've had mine since April - haven't washed it yet. The rain washes the big chunks of dirt off, that's good enough for me.
