In theory the round tubes should slide off rocks easier. I have only had round tubes so I can't tell you from personal experience if it actually makes a difference. Unless someone with personal experience with both tells you otherwise, I would recommend buying whichever you like better.

Yes, IMHO, you can't go wrong with round, powder-coated sliders. They match the roof rack very nicley, are less expensive, and are the most practical choice for offroading.

Not that I want to make your choice anymore difficult, but... Demello Offroad has Hybrid sliders that are made of both square tube and round tube. The tubes connecting to the FJ are square, while the outer tubes are round. I sold my factory sliders and ordered a set of Jason's sliders. I will post pics of the install process.
The reason I like them is they keep the vehicle a little more steady when on top of a rock that is moving towards the center of the vehicle. The square on the inside keeps everything nice and planted, because the last thing you want to do is slide off something to the inside. The round on the outside provide the benefits that others have mentioned, making it easier to slide off of things (again towards the outside where it's safe).
I'm with AZ FJ...part of the decision should depend on how you use them. I've used both round and square sliders, wide and narrow. My driving style perfers the square tucked in sliders. Your requirements may differ from the people here. Just some food for thought
