K&N air filter- Is it worth the $?

Couldn't find anything on here about K&N air filters. I think Toyota also sells a "high performance" air filter. Any thoughts? Thanks.

K & N gets my money. Part number is 33-2281 for your FJ. Got one in my Jeep Liberty, My home generator, My Yamaha four-wheeler, and my cell phone if I can find one. Money well spent in my opinion. My FJ got his at 68 miles.

I got one on my FJ dont notice a huge diffrence, but the filter is about 1/2 the thick ness of the stock filter ,and built like a brick. Its obiously is giving better air flow, and thats always good.

The K & N and the TRD filters are pretty much the same thing, K & N is half the price of the TRD. Pretty much last the life of your vehicle or you can buy stock elements, 2 or 3 of the stock ones and you've paid for the K & N. You'll need to buy the cleaning /oiling kit, clean every 5k or more frequently if off roading...Put them in all my vehicles for years, a good $40 upgrade.

Cheaper than paying to replace a paper filter for the life of the vehicle.

No other benefits known.

Thanks! I have used them in the past in a Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, and 4runner. I was pleased with the performance in my Jeeps and still have 1 in my Wrangler. However, it didn't seem to make much difference in the 4runner.

If I may, I think the K $ N filter needs to be cleaned every 50,000 miles, more frequently if you off road in dusty conditions.

You might want to check with K & N on there desired cleaning interval, At 50k the thing wouldn't flow much air based on the way they've looked at 7k on my past vehicles.. I've always cleaned mine at 7k and they always looked ready to be cleaned. And make sure you put it in front of a fan and dry throughly .

The 50k is based on highway driving.

Extreme off road and dusty conditions blackens them in no time.

I cleaned every 10k.
