Is the TRD Exhaust worth it?

So the dealer was trying to get me to purchase every option...most of which I did. But, I found it hard to pay $550 for the TRD Exhaust. Needless to say, I said NO. But, how good does it sound? I'm selling my '01 Dodge Dakota, with which I installed dual exhaust with flowmaster mufflers. I like a "throaty" exhaust sound. However, that was a V8...the FJC is a V6. Is the TRD Exhaust worth it? How does it sound? Has anyone tried an aftermarket muffler/exhaust system? Thanks in advance!

Sounds pretty good. I wonder if anyone has tried aftermarket though...

Ryan, IMO no it's not worth it. Save your $ and get a dual exhaust system by magnaflow when they are available. Or have your local exhaust guys fabricate something up if you want that throaty sound. Cost may be similar or less, but you'll have "dual eshaust"

Now if it comes on the FJ already (and I know you said it didn't), I wouldn't fuss much. It's worth asking, but dealers may give you a hard time about taking addons off.

Are they doing that?? They usually just do a cat-back bolt on. Great company.

Re: Is the TRD Exhaust worth it?

If there is one thing that annoys me, it's the weed wacker noise that a pocket rocket (Accord, Jetta, Imprezza, Lancer) makes with an aftermarket exhaust. I'd rather pull my arm hairs out via a roll of duct tape wrapped around them than to listen to that. I think I may try to hear an FJ with one before I take the plunge. ...if a dealer around here ever has an FJ with one installed. The FJ sounds like it has a deeper resonance, but it's hard to know what it will sound like afterwards.

it's not at all the same sound. that would drive me nuts. it's closer to one of those really obnoxious giant Dodge Rams with the dual pipes coming out of the back and the insecure dude in the driver's seat.

but.....not that bad. I like it

Rubi, they'd like to if there is a demand. They also need someone in Socal to drop off their FJ for a couple of days. I was going to make the drive, but in the middle of a move. Maybe in August.

They forgot to mention what a pretty *CLING* sound the TRD makes on the rocks
