Looks really good. What happened with Sol and linex , hang up instead of slide over?
The line-x peeled off as it slid over the rocks. The line-x also has a lot of friction, kind of like grip tape and wouldn't slide as well as paint or powdercoating. By the end of the Rubicon trail most of the line-x had peeled off the bottom of my sliders. I have already peeled the rest off and rattle canned them. I did like the non-slip benefits that line-x provided, but the peeling I can do without.

The picture below is of MTBCoach's sliders, but mine did the same thing as his going through the Rubicon. I was picking up pieces of line-x after Jerry went over rocks.

Those look super sturdy ,nice and clean.

I still wonder what became of this guys homemade sliders

I also like the looks of his
There still on my rig doing just fine, thanx. I ended up painting the tread blue, they function quite nice, both off road and in parking lots. I love it when I find chips in the paint in parking lots, they have saved me countless door dings.

Re: Project Overkill aka home-brew sliders

The sliders look great, I do have one consern, you say you are going to use them as air tanks, Before you do i would do a little homework on Hydraulics/pneumatics, square ends on air tanks are a big problem, im no engineer but from what i can remember about hydraulics/pneumatis, the forces on a square end are huge so please read up on it before you put air in them.

Re: Project Overkill aka home-brew sliders

I will take one pair, please PM me for my address. No kidding, they look great. I've been thinking on the same lines as you. I don't like what is out there & want to build my own, only I can't weld. I am going to use your idea & print your pic.'s, I want a set like these. Nice job, post up pic.'s when they are painted.

your absolutely right about the 90° angles and pneumatic pressure. it is a great thought of using them for air tanks but you will soon find after you air them up. won't take much pressure to blow out your end caps.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways at the last possible moment .... "Old Forester" in one hand, red meat in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming: "WOO HOO!! What a Ride."
