4x4 / Off-Road TechThis section contains all discussion related to taking the FJ Cruiser in Off-Road situations, 4x4 applications and any armor modifications.
I realize the biggest list we can do right now is 3 inches (think I saw one for 3.5)..
But if I were go to a shop that did custom 4x4 packages. What would need to be done to get 8" up?
Not that I would ever need 8" for this FJ, but it is a demo vehicle that will be going to car shows and such. Probably 38" tires too if they will fit...
So, what all would need to be done?
Not to sound like a d**k, but if you have to ask that question you probably are already in over your head. You need to talk to a competent shop in your area that can perform a solid axle conversion for you.
Yeah, I know that I am in over my head...
I already have a couple of off road vehicles at my disposal for when I want to have fun.. 02 TJ w/ 6" and a stroked sand rail.
The thing about the FJ, as lame as this sounds, is that this truck is not being built to be fully functional, not being built to climb any rocks or mountains. It is a demo vehicle for my company. Going to go to car shows and conventions as an attention grabber. So basicly I just need to scratch a check and be done with it. HOWEVER, I don't want to get raped either. I am ready to flip some coin for it but am not ready to roll over either.
Just want a bad ass looking machine. I also want somthign quality so that when someone with knowledge of this stuff sees it the recognize its strengths, not its weeknesses. Otherwise that would be like putting in a 10k watt jensen stereo system.. big, but stupid and cheap.. thats not what I want.. I want big and badass that attracks peopl so that they come to our booth and check out our products. This FJ is also going to get about $3k worth of Second Skin sound deadening products in it with a massive audio system. All to get people to our booth...
Well, there you go. SAS it is. Since it's a poser, you can probably just use a set of Dana 44's. My advice- link & coilover front & rear... I don't know anyone in Phoenix, but if you want it done right and show quality, you oughta contact Jason Demello (he's a sponsor here) in Santa Ana. He's one of the best fabricators around, knows his Toyotas and will produce top-notch, bulletproof & show quality work- he's just recently completed a sweet '06 Taco (same platform in the front), so he knows the deal.
I'd just be guessing, but you could probably be done to show specs for under $20k.

Bring your checkbook.
Yes - finally a real answer to a hypothetical question. Cudos, Valkyrie !!!

hmmmmm..8" seems a little excessive..even for a show car. A 3 " increase is what most of us have on our FJs and in my honest opinion, that is high enough for most of us...
good luck
