Question Radiator is exposed

I was inspecting my FJ today in preparation for a camping weekend and I found something disturbing. The bottom of the radiator is fully exposed. A collision with a rock might shatter the radiator bottom.
Is there an available solution (armour plate) to solve this issue?

I saw the same thing you did, but then I looked at my 2000 Dakota and I've drove that thing for 45,000 miles without a problem. (however the dealer I took it to for a fan problem put a wrench through the stock radiator.Got a new one for free.)

Re: Radiator is exposed

Why is it that the people with the fewest posts always seem to be the biggest worry warts? Is it a desire to post coupled with an uncertainty as to what to post? Is it inexperience with online forums? Or is it really the issue they're asking (worrying) about?

If your radiator is "exposed" just what kind of impact would you think you'd need to have to damage it? Smashing into a huge bolder? Colliding with another vehicle? Ramming into a wall? If you do any of those then you've got much bigger issues than an "exposed radiator."

Enjoy your FJ!

Re: Radiator is exposed

I don't worry about my radiator because its impossible to damage if your doing any type of fourwheelin safely. But if you slide front forward and smash your front end in, then um, you got alot of repairs to do.

Re: Radiator is exposed

Yes... That is one of the first thing I saw when I got my first FJC, so I ordered the Optional Aluminum Skid Plate to remedy the problem area...

The Optional Aluminum Skid Plate covers it well, I have had mine on the rocks and bashed the heck out of the front when it was stock height, it was no problem, nothing even could come close to the radiator...

Oh yes, The Opt Alum. SP did get a little warped from a day of riding on the rocks, but It was so Strong, that I actually jack the FJC up with the jack on the front pass. corner and it lifted the FJC up... But I did get it to move just enough to be straight and level, actually, better than when it was new...
