4x4 question

Can you engage it and disengage it any time when rolling?
I will be getting an auto 4x4 and am use to my old pathfinder, I had to be stoped to engage it or turn it off, and had to reverse to completely dissengage it.

Is there a specific speed where you cant turn it on or off?

Re: 4x4 question

What Boston said. I do believe that you can engage 4-HI up to 62 mph or so, right?? Please check your owner's manual. Remember, once you engage 4-HI, you need to stay on a straight line...do NOT make turns unless the ground is slippery (snow, heavy rain, sand, etc.).

You should ALWAYS stop to engage 4-LO.

Re: 4x4 question

You can engage 4HI at 40 MPH or below. 4LO, as stated, you must be stopped and in Neutral.

Re: 4x4 question

Here is what the owner's manual says on speeds and switching gears with the auto:

Quote:
"To shift from "H2" to H4 reduce your speed to less than 80km/h (50mph) and move the front drive control lever"
Quote:
"To shift from "H4" to "H2" simply move the front drive control lever. This can be done at any vehicle speed"
Quote:
"Shifting between "H4" and "L4". Stop the vehicle, put the transmission in "N" and move the front drive control lever.
It is slightly different for MT6's

H to HL - any speed
HL to H - any speed
HL to LL -
Quote:
"stop the vehicle or reduce your speed to less than 8km/h (5mph)"
LL to HL - any speed
