Hi-Lift Off-Road Kit?

Couple of quick question, does anyone use this or is it cheaper to buy the parts seperately? They say it takes half as long to winch yourself out with this kit. If cheaper what parts would i need to purchase, I already have a tree saver and 27,000 lb tow strap. Thanks in advance

Re: Hi-Lift Off-Road Kit?

I have the kit. Not yet needed to use it. Just have it for the just in case situation. Not sure if would be cheaper separately or if the parts would be available separately though. From what I understand like you say supposed to quicker and easier to use the Hi Lift for wenching with the kit.

Re: Hi-Lift Off-Road Kit?

Do you wheel a lot by yourself or usually with a group??? If you are with a group, there is a good chance you will never need to winch with the hi-lift. But, if you are alone a lot of times and near trees or have a pull pal, it may be worth it.
Sometimes winching from a bumper mounted winch is not an option because you need to back out of where you are at. This is a case that the hi-lift as a winch would be very effective.

Re: Hi-Lift Off-Road Kit?

I have the kit and used it twice already, winching with a Hi-lift is pain in the..... but it is good to have. The chain comes in handy for other uses. But get some use out of this kit you need an additional chain. However I would much rather use my Maasdam Jackmate than the winch jack attachments that comes with it.

I got the kit but I like to be over prepared. Now I need to find a safe place to practice before I actually need it.

This is exactly why my winch is mounted on a multi mount and can be used in either the front or rear 2" receiver.

Re: Hi-Lift Off-Road Kit?

I have the kit and all of the necessary "accessories" to use per Bill Burke's DVD lesson on the topic, but, like others have said, I'll never used it yet, which is why I also bring along a copy of the "instruction" manual for this and all other gear with me, in case I need to "remember" how to use it.

Re: Hi-Lift Off-Road Kit?

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'm gonna order it and a Hi-lift base. I definately want to practice winching with it up my driveway so if I get stuck on the trail I will know what the he!! to do.

Re: Hi-Lift Off-Road Kit?

At the Summit Chris Nelson from the Trail Team gave a presentation on using the high lift for winching. He made it look very easy but he has had years of practice. So practicing under a non stressful situation would be good. We wheel a lot and have a Warn winch. We use it a usually to recover other vehicles. In fact we used it this weekend. When you are in a recovery situation it can be kinda freaky. Your adrenaline is pumping and it can be stressful. Having some practice and confidence in your equipment will make a huge difference. I personally would get the off road kit, then learn to use it. MT

Don't know if you can find that vendor that was at Rausch when I bought mine - I got it for $55. That was the cheapest I found it and I didn't have to pay shipping.

I have yet to use mine. I do go off-roading by myself a lot, so I'm sure it'll get used one day. Remember to get some (16' or more) 3/8" chain.

Have you ripped off the side steps yet? I'm getting ready to get some sliders soon.
