I want to lift it, not sure.

I have read in lot of the posts of the problems with lifting the FJ. Will it ruin the ride I have now? Any driveshaft vibrations? And will it void my waranty. My main concern is the Atrac problems that I have been reading about.

Any Sug would be great.

Re: I want to lift it, not sure.

You will have no problems with a 3-inch lift. I have an OME setup with 886 heavy springs in front and 895 mediums in the rear with the ARB shocks. My ride actually improved. The FJ has a smoother ride and handling is much more positive.

Yep, you've heard whining and complaints on OME lifts, but they when investigated the cause is improper installations or use of the wrong springs for load, etc.

I would not, I repeat NOT do a spacer lift. IMHO, they are unstable.

cheers,

dale

Re: I want to lift it, not sure.

the only way it will go wrong if you use some lousy 4wd shop that only has experience in installing 12'' spacer lifts on trucks that never leave the pavement and has no idea how a toyota works.

all lift installations are easy, but require someone with half of a brain and who knows about toyotas to do it.

No; if you use any real lift kit (that includes new springs) your handling will be much improved. The stock suspension is way too soft for good handling. The ride will be more firm depending on which springs you use and how much weight you will add to the truck later, but way better overall.

No; you don't touch the driveline to install a lift, and has already been said a 3" lift won't alter your driveline geometry enough to worry about.

Naturally, Toyota is not going to warranty someone else's aftermarkert parts, but they have to honor the warranty on anything else unaffected by your mods.

??? I'm unaware of A-Trac problems related to common lifts. You don't touch any of the A-Trac stuff to install or run a 3" lift. It still works fine on the seven or eight FJC lifts I've installed myself.

Stick with a tried-and-true proven combination like OME coils and shocks or any of the good quality coilovers out there. A specific recommendation would depend on how your going to use your truck and how much weight you will eventually add to it in other mods or equipment or trailer towing, etc.

Re: I want to lift it, not sure.

I have the 3" Rough Country. Spacers up front and shocks and coils in the rear.. Its not the set up wanted but could not beat the deal that I got on it in a group buy ($254.00 delivered) This got me up so I could put on bigger tires (33's). I know some people don't like spacers and there are good reasons for that, I just feel this was a great way to go for what Cash I had at the time..And to be honest it does not leans as bad as I thought it would, but still not like coils .

Besides now all I have to do is save up for some coil overs for up front

Re: I want to lift it, not sure.

Hi there, i have the rc 6" and the ride is kind of bumpy but that could be just me , i guess it all depends on the combination you chose. I think that the OMEs are the best lifts spoken of on this forum. Good Luck

Re: I want to lift it, not sure.

I recommend going three inches and not six. You doubt you'll need six inches anyhow. If you want top of the line IMO go with ICON all around and add Jounce Shocks. If you want a good, problem free, quality lift go with Old Man Emu. I had the OME and upgraded to my current setup. Both improve pretty much everything except your MPG.... but it isn't too bad. IF you run bigger tires, you'll probably want a good body mount chop done too to eliminate rubbing when the wheels are turned and the suspension is compressed.

Re: I want to lift it, not sure.

Any mod you can think of is to benefit you and what you want from your FJ. It really is up to you and what you plan to do with your truck. I see so many trucks on here with mud tires but they suck in snow and on highway....And for me my FJ spends 99% of its time on road , which includes waaaay too much snow and slush and crap...(its coming again...grrr) The same thing with lifts!!!!!

I see awesome lifts on here and drool so much it's silly but I just don't need the wheel travel and clearance that some of these guys have for rocks and mud holes (maybe once mine is paid for ...hehehehe) so I did a 2" spacer lift just for the look. I must say I love my FJs stance now with the front fenders up off the tires. I see stockers now and think something is just wrong with the front end.....But again it's all in what you want.

Pick your mods for you.....3" inch OME is by far the most popular lift on the forums....Follwed by RC and adjustables a close second.....

You will love whatever you choose.....Get used to staring at your truck....No matter what you do to it....

Love my FJ.....Love this forum

This is how mine sits now.....The lift is JUST in the front....But if you look at the distance between the front fender flare and the tire you can see the difference from stock.

Don't forget that no matter what you choose we all like to see pics of any mod......Good luck...Mod On!!!
