Demello VS Trail gear sliders

I am needing info and any pics of which sliders are better, the Demello or the trailgear, I have read that the trail gear has a bad rap for getting damaged in shipping and not comming with everything, they even say on their website scatches and rub markes may happen in shipping, that makes me uneasy about them, I have read nothing but good things about demello, I am looking at the round demello sliders, but I am not sure how far they stick out and if I can use them as a step like my factory step sides which is just a bunch of plastic, if someone has some good pics of them and how they like them would be great, both are around the same price the demello are about 80 higher after powder coating, I am willing to spend a little more for a better product, but if the trail gear has gotten their shipping and customer service better I may look at them, but I am weiry of them because of the thread that a guy started and it was a bumpy road for him . any info would be great.

Re: Demello VS Trail gear sliders

Threads like this rarely provide positive results.

Start here...
SLIDERS / ROCK RAILS: Comparisons / buyers guide

The use the search function to read about those who own each...

Then, make your judgement. It sounds like you have done some reading already and identified the issues. Demello is a high quality, excellent customer service company who makes very durable gear. But, I'm biased in owning many of Jason's products and being very satisfied with my decision to purchase his stuff.

If you want to avoid any shipping damage of paint/powder coating, have them sent "raw" and get that done locally. It is not easy to ship things that are very bulky and heavy without some rubbing along the way. I've had bumpers (front and rear) and sliders shipped across the country and did have some minor issues but I'm not so fussy, knowing that I'll do more damage to them on the trail than could happen via shipping.

Good luck in your decision but my advise is Demello hands down...

I'm thinking that's like comparing Marshmellows to a Tank! Jason makes some solid stuff!

Re: Demello VS Trail gear sliders

LOL! this thread is funny!

Demello makes their products in the USA with USA steel by USA employees. Demello has great customer service and they build high quality products.

Trail Gear outsources the building of their products to China. So, they are made in China with poor quality Chinese steel by Chinese workers. Yes they are cheaper, but you get what you pay for.

Re: Demello VS Trail gear sliders

I dont own either..

But I have heard about a lot of problems and bad things with trail gear.

On the other hand I have heard nothing but good things about Demello..

Maybe one day I will be able to afford one of his bumpers..

Not saying they are expensive, I am just poor !!

Just my .02

You said what I was thinking but was doing my best to put my "nice guy" hat on (not that you are wearing the "tough guy" hat), but your last sentence says it all...

Re: Demello VS Trail gear sliders

Look, I love the Demello stuff. But this crap about TG being crap... well, that's uhm - crap. My TG sliders arrived perfect. I had them shipped raw. They fit perfectly. The welds are as pretty as any hand-made part I've seen (I buy stuff for my Jeeps too). I've (the FJ) landed on them several times - no damage.

I love how you guys are so fast to bash other stuff - stuff you've not used or tested.

X's2

I have TG and they have with stood many a test with no problems. I do like them for the "step" reason. Now that I have OME's that aspect is great.

Having said that though, I bought TG before I knew they came from China. If I had known, I would NOT have bought them. I don't think that was such a big issue a year ago when I bought them.

BUY AMERICAN

Re: Demello VS Trail gear sliders

Ok, I've seen this type of thread get really ugly before, but I'll throw my story out there again because I'm bored.

I have Trail Gear sliders on my truck. They did arrive scratched up due to mindlessly poor packaging. On the other hand, the welds are all really pretty and they have supported the weight of my truck quite a few times without issue. The powder coating is fairly easy to scratch, but I'm not seeing any rust yet.

I ordered my sliders the day I went to the dealership and picked out my FJ. If I had it to do over again, I think I would go with Demello sliders. I've dealt with Demello before and was happy with the customer service. Demello also has a great reputation for building cool parts that are nearly too good to be true. Trail Gear, on the other hand, does not offer much in the way of customer service and builds parts that work.

EDIT: let me clarify my comment about Demello parts being "nearly too good to be true". I mean they really are that good... not that the hype is over the top.
