Re: how to disable VSC (it works)

It should have been done at the factory with a switch. You need it for 2wd muddin so you can spin the tires to clean the tread. I was embarassed in a muddy parking lot by my friend in a 2wd tacoma that is 10 yrs old old tires as he passed me in the slop spinning mudd all over me and my danm traction control slowed me down to the point i was stuck and had to go in 4wd to get through what he just blasted through in 2wd.

FJ Repair Manual Page IN-20 Number 9 previously said:
FOR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) SYSTEM
(a) NOTICES WHEN USING DRUM TESTER
(1) Before beginning testing, to disable the VSC, turn the ignition switch OFF and connect SST to terminals TS and CG of the DLC3. SST 09843-18040
NOTICE:
- Confirm that the VSC warning light blinks.
- VSC system will be reset when the engine is restarted.
- For safety, secure the vehicle with restraint chains while using a wheel dynamometer.
The FJ Repair Manual is here. (resource referenced from this forum) Page IN-20, item number 9.

I know this subject is old and beaten to death, but wouldn't it be better to disable VSC in a way that is documented by Toyota? You never know what else that plug in the engine compartment does. Plus hooking up a switch to wires that are already inside the car would be much easier.

It looks like the DLC3 is on the driver's side just under the fuse box. TS is pin 12 and CG is pin 4. The SST (09843-18040) is a 'special service tool' that looks like a jumper wire with 3 ends. 2 ends are blade terminals and 1 looks likes it plugs into something.

Can any Toyota techies out there confirm the SST is just a jumper wire?

Thought I stepped into a parallel universe there for a second. Guess there is two VSC threads.

Re: how to disable VSC (it works)

I just learned the the 2007 Tacoma will have a VSC switch. I wonder if the FJ might be prewired for something like this. Kinda like the A-Trac switch. I don't know if this is the case, but it should deff be something to look further into.

Re: how to disable VSC (it works)

My 06 4Runner has VSC ..... I would kill to have a switch to turn it on/off. I dont understand why people think its so dangerous. I've been driving cars my whole life without this electronic gadgets and never had a problem. I think it is a great safety feature and would keep it activated for driving , but would love the ability to turn it off when off when needed. As a matter of fact I has a situation last nite when trying to pull out onto the hiway in snow and the VSC shut down the power and the guy behind was gaining fast. The hiway was clear driving but the median I was pulling out of had a lot of snow in it. I had plenty of time , but when the power shuts down and the speed of the cars are 60 mph , kinda gets difficult. JUST MY .02

Re: how to disable VSC (it works)

You guys act like every body is stupid and they're going to go into a corner and try to spin out because of the lack of vsc. I don't like vsc it gets annoying when you are in the dirt playing around, I drive in 4wd when I don't need to in dirt just so that it turns off.

Re: how to disable VSC (it works)

yeah thats why it was the first thing I searched for was how to disable it, Ive never owned a car w/ abs vsc computers etc... till now. I agree there nice features but sometime they dont work in the way they were designed for and thats why I did this, I still have installed a switch but someday I will the 07 taco switch sounds good even if the fj isnt prewired I want it to look factory.

Re: how to disable VSC (it works)

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! That VSC is a horrible device and for people who cannot drive off-road. I think it is more dangerous to drive when it is on! I have raced off-road for 20 years and it is actually good to get sideways at times.

Now, has anyone figured out how to disable the seatbelt buzzer? We put them on 99% of the time, but live in a rural and mountainous area that we just put over to the neighbors or up the trail and the alarm is very annoying.

Thanks for you help.
